Thanks for the feedback. I scored a handful of 1/2" bevel head screws in the free stock at the wood shop. I've just sprayed the heads black.

Wiring harness completed. Not sure if I like the crossover mounted on the standoffs, maybe I should just hot glue it down. I guess if it doesn't rattle, it doesn't matter. One of the backer plates for the Speakons split on my while I was pre-drilling the screw holes. You can see the PL mess I made fixing it.

Paint is next. Waiting for a still day for the primer, since I have no inside painting booth/space.

You want to use Duratex outside, then leave the cab in the sun for a day to hard cure it, otherwise it takes forever to fully harden.

No need to wait......just take it outside and paint it with the primer. Any dust or crap that gets on it, if small enough, can be left. Any big stuff can be knocked off after the primer dries. The Duratex will cover it with no problem.

The wind moderated a bit. Almost a full can of black chalkboard paint later. I'm not sure I've ever put spray paint on raw wood before. It really soaked it up. The chalkboard paint worked well, nice matte finish and dry very quickly. I didn't get full even coverage before the can ran out, but it's hopefully sealed it up enough to help with the Duratex. I was worried about getting the ducts properly covered, as I doubt I'm going to get much Duratex into them. But, some spray from both front and back and I think it's fine. A few of the laser cuts on the throat sheaths are still visible, hopefully the Duratex will take care of that.

You didn't spray paint on your hardware cloth in front of the speaker, did you?

It's heavy black plastic webbing. It may have some spray on it. None of the holes are blocked or anything. What is the concern?

The concern would be if the paint clogged the holes.....if they aren't, you're good.

BALANCE POINT?

I'm sure I found something in another post a week or so ago that stated that the balance point is right at the baffle. The handle arrived today. All the other holes have been drilled. My inclination is to mount the handle on the long axis on the shorter side, between the Speakons. Meaning the cab would be narrower vertically when carried and the handle would be at right angles to the baffle. My thinking is that if the balance point is not right where the handle is, then it won't be as bothersome that way. I guess I worry too much. It could always be moved, as simple as the Duratex is to apply.

To find the balance point put the cab on a dowel, moving it forward and back until it is at/close to the balance point. You could even use a broom stick on the floor/bench, and just move the cab bit by bit to find that point.

+1

That's how I always do it.

Thanks, that did the trick. The balance point turned out to be maybe 1/2" forward of the baffle (with the driver mounted, of course).

Wow - I have a new favorite thing - Duratex! How I could have used this over the years for a myriad of things. Quick, easy, fast cleanup.
Partially done, some obvious 'holiday's (using the painter's vernacular). Cooking in the Texas sunshine and heat for now.

Welcome to the cult of Duratex.......I've lost count of all the things I've put it on.

It looks great, but I can't stop looking at that foam ball. Did the duratex melt it some? I know spray paint can melt some types of foam. Or is it those green rough foam balls you see fake flower stuck into? I would think styrofoam balls would be smoother.
