I would love to have a little 1x8 pa top for light pa duties and the simpler construction of the omni series is attractive.

Theoretically one should be able to split an omnitop 8 directly in half with little issue. Does this idea stand any sort of chance?

My first recommendation for light PA duties would be the 2x6 SLA Pro. GREAT little speaker cab and an easy build too. Although, if you want something horn loaded or just have your mind set on using an 8" driver, the Wedgehorn 8 might be the easy way to go for something like that.

Wedgehorn 8 has frequency response very specifically made for use as on stage vocal monitors in a band setting. While all reasonably efficient PA cabs require EQ to sound good, it takes a massive amount of EQ to make Wedgehorn 8 sound good as a PA top. Wedgehorn 10 is better in that regard, but in terms of being compact and an easy build, it is a far stretch from 2x6 SLA PRO (or even 4x6, for that matter).

Yeah, I hear ya on that Anton. I know the sales page talks about that and it's also mentioned in the SPL charts section that they're designed "specifically to accentuate the vocal range from 250 to 800Hz".

However, the charts indicate a very tame response with a slight increase in that range. Nothing drastic at all and would likely require less EQ than a DR200

To my eye, the Wedgehorn 8 appears as though it would require the least EQ out of these 3 cabs.

That said, I have absolutely zero experience with the Wedgehorn 8, as a PA speaker or otherwise. So... take it for whatever it's worth.

Well spotted Seth, I stand corrected. And I actually own a pair of both WH8 and SLA Pro myself. I have never attempted to EQ my WHs to flat response. My SLA Pro do require some and it makes them shine.

From 6000-8000Hz, that looks like a step of about 9dB. That's one hell of a jump to tame.
