Tuba 24 Build Progress

Hey, here are the new pair of tubas. Yes it's 3/4 ply, and so are the other two. I have some leftover ply I had to burn up. This just about used it all up. 1/2 ply from now on. That being said, the other pair of 3/4 inch ply Tubas sounded great! it would be interesting to hear them against a 1/2 inch ply set.
The second build went so much smother then the first build. I did two cabs at a time, this go around. I made sure every piece was exact to it's twin. All the angles are exact. I made jigs to set everything. One thing I noticed about the other build. The slightly off pieces and the forgiving construction methods lent itself to a slightly different tone from each cab. If you slapped them like a drum, the tone was off form one to the other. Not much, but in the whole scheme of things it probably doesn't matter.
This new set is sounding right on. They pretty much have maintained the same tone.
There is a bracing jig I'll share. Two pieces of ply. One is 2x4 inches. It lies on its side. Then the other one is the measure from the top side of the jig ply to the bottom side of the brace. Just set the two jig plys up as an upside down "T", balance the brace on it as you are gluing them in. Only put glue from the front edge to about the halfway point on each edge. As you insert them the glue will spread along the whole edge and you wont have glue where you don't want it. if you are doing a wider cab with dual braces make a little short two piece "t" for the upper one. Two piece because one can get jammed up if the glue hardens and you have wedged that in too well.
Still waiting on Eminence drivers. I know Kentucky has been through a lot. I don't know my place in line, but my order went in August 2021. Can't hardly wait to install the Kappalites!
