Re: HowieZ DR200 build
Glad to have you back. I'm excited to see how the budget driver works out.
Bill said it might be decent with eq. Id be interested in using cheap drivers for a set of wedgehorn 8s

Module wood is pretty close to ready.
Sanded and applied putty, sanded that and painted and finse repeat ad nauseum. Still not smooth enough. I should just bite bullet and Duratex. I wasn't planning on Duratexing the mouth so I thought it might look funny.

Looks decent enough to me. What are you using for filler?

Bondo spot putty
Re: HowieZ DR200 build
backs are glued on, so this weekend I hope to flush cut, round edges and fill nail holes. Then a coat of flat black and duratex.
Maybe I can get drivers installed and fire this project up this year...lol.

What is the switch for? Active vs passive tweeters?

Re: HowieZ DR200 build
I'd assume it's for running bi-amped or through the passive crossover.

1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

Bruce FTW! I wanted to try crossovers, but also wanted to experiment with bi-amp since my Driverack can do L/M/H. If you're gonna be a bear, be a Grizzly? Nah, I just like to tinker!Bruce Weldy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 1:05 pm I'd assume it's for running bi-amped or through the passive crossover.

Re: HowieZ DR200 build
Bi-amping with piezos gets you almost nothing. Because they're high impedance they draw very little current, so they consume very little power. The only potential benefit is if your amp is undersized, causing high THD. If that's the case bi-amping will be cleaner, but considering the sensitivity of the DR200 the amp would have to be 20 watts or less for that to be a concern.

Re: HowieZ DR200 build
Then chunk the piezos and put in the compression horns.....Lower crossover and you can bi-amp to your heart's content!

The DR200 HF horn is too short for less than 2kHz use.

Yeah, I was thinking 2.5k for the piezos.....but, no.....Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 2:06 pm The DR200 HF horn is too short for less than 2kHz use.

Re: HowieZ DR200 build
Well darn I was having so much fun. I didn't figure power would be the issue, in fact probably silly for me to use a dedicated amp for piezos. I was only thinkging about the digital crossover in the PX2, simple as that.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 12:05 pm Bi-amping with piezos gets you almost nothing. One array module mounted and ready to seal a woofer chamber.
Re: HowieZ DR200 build
Bill, I'm putting egg crate foam in the sheath sides, and then top/bottom. What I ordered turned out to be a bit dense, and it's closed cell. It's like a black foamy rubber 1inch thick or so, then some eggcrate bonded on top. Is that going to be too dense, or take too much chamber volume? I got the sense we were 'stuffing' more than soundproofing, and I feel my choice (ordered online) has done the opposite.
