Is it OK to build the S 1x12 as a taller rather than wider cab?
I would leave the handle in the designed position so it would be on the top. If built like this, would it be best to raise the 12 up a little, and move the tweeter over so that it wouldn't be directly above the 12?

Rotate the cab 90 degrees, keeping the tweeter at the top. Leave the woofer position the same, but move the tweeter to the opposite side of the baffle for better balance. It would have to be a strap handle to avoid the bracing.

As I am using a strap handle on a ported cabinet, would there be any benefit or issues in using the bracing design from the sealed cabinet?

Not really. The sealed box bracing is more complicated because of the lack of the bracing that the ports create.

I'm using 1 inch acoustic foam for damping material. When lining the top, sides and bottom, should I leave the areas directly behind the ports unlined, or would the foam not affect the ports?

It won't affect them. Moreover you don't want midrange reflecting off the back to emerge through the ports.

The handles I intend to use would require either moving the entire brace back 1 1/2 inches, or moving the braces below the handles down 1 1/2 inches. Is one of these options preferable, or should I find smaller handles?

You want the brace as close as possible to the middle of the panel, so take that into account.

I would prefer to mount the feet with 6mm bolts, a large washer and a nut, rather than screws into the ply. If I mount the front feet below the ports, the washer and nut will be in the port, is this OK or should I move the feet inwards to avoid this?
