Crown XLS 1500

#1 Post by djtrumptight »

Is anyone familiar with how a Crown XLS 1500 will perform with 3) DR 250'S per side ? I dont plan on running that way too often but i will have 6 DR 250'S as soon as i finish my build,i dont really wanna buy another amp for rare occasions plus i cant find another XLS 1500 for sale or i would buy it,i like to keep things uniform,my reason for building the older plan DR 250'S.

Also,if i use 6 DR'S and 2 stacks of 4 v plated T-48's,wouldnt the volume of the T-48's plus the 3db from the V plates give me the volume of 12 T-48's ?

3 a side is just ok to maximum voltage (40V) for the DR’s with an xls 1500, but there is no headroom.

You need to double cab count to add +6dB ( eg 8 x T48’s doubled to 16 x T48’s) and that’s not the same as 2 stacks of 4 x T48’s V plated. While the V plating helps, there’s no free lunch...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

I use 3-1500s for my subs running bridged....not applicable to your situation, but they have been steady for years of service.

They should be fine running 3 DRs per side. Calculates to 45-48 volts output.....I can't imagine every running DRs up to 40 volts....

I use a 2500 for my 4 OTops, because it just worked out that way in my amp configuration as my rig grew.

You can get the old-style 1500s pretty cheap.....I'd use 'em in a heartbeat in your situation.

What do you think about an XLS1500 with 2 Jack 12L's for PA?

I also have an XLS2500, but I use that with a Tall Boy 15 on one channel.

Thanxabunch!
