Re: Omnitop12, my first
It was a tig machine. I’m no tig aluminum expert but it will hold I recon!

Started building my second set of otop12s. So far so good. It is sure nice having a second set of hands for glueing

Re: Omnitop12, my first
I’m building in 40-48degree weather lightly been raining/sleeting. First time working pl in the cold, well it’s cold for me. The pl is a lot more workable at these lower temps as it does not ooze out so much and it bubbles less while curing. I have a lot more time to work it before it starts to set as well. This compared to normally when I work it’s 100degree Arizona weather usually. The 8x stronger version of pl does not work so well in the cold, it’s too thick.

Be careful, if too cold it won't cure. I'd take the cabs to a heated space to cure the PL.
Re: Omnitop12, my first
Thanks for the advice. I am getting it to cure it is slower but it is behaving better then when it 100degrees outside.
When you don’t have enough wood clamps some old rusty weights work I guess!!!

Well one complete today. It’s funny how many little things it takes to build one of these speaker cabinets. The wiring always gets me. I like the wiring part but it is time consuming and I find it odd what it takes to keep the wiring tidy and I still can’t manage a solder joint with out and extra set of hands. One on the gun one on the solder one on the part and one on the wire about six times over.

Took me a few days but I have completed my fourth otop12. Yay I did it!!! My wife says it makes a good place to put her craft stuff and we’ll!!! I can’t argue

It’s been a while, I built some more speakers. I wanted to show off. The sound out of these cabs when coupled is awesome.

I built a pair of dual loaded otops12, same simple stain job as always. I set the rig up in my house just for fun. i may have over done it. I am so happy about this rig.

Super Bad Ass ACUA! I wonder how thin you could go on the sheet and still have it be easy enough to work with, maintain acceptable rigidity, as well as remain sonically stable.
I probably wont be doing any of these... buttttt, I have been looking for a good excuse to purchase a TIG welder. Hmmm (strokes chin with thumb and forefinger)

Re: Omnitop12, my first
Question about the diffraction horns: Did you cut/weld/bend based on the outside dimensions of what the wood version measured?
I'm not sure it'll matter, but grampa yoda might chime in. They look bada$$ bare metal. \m/ (>.<) \m/

Re: Omnitop12, my first
Using 1/8in sheet aluminum I kept to the ID of the horn specs, the hole is 1in, the triangle piece at the ends are actual dimensions, I just don’t have to cut angles into any of it. If I tap the horns it rings a little which bothers me I think I will get some dynamat deadening material and adhere it to the outside and see what that does. So far so good though it seems the ring below the horn pass band so!!!
