I decided on a 2x10 build as overall efficiency is supposed to be better. I decided on the standard over the tall boy because of height constraints in my practice/storage room ( needs to fit under a built-in desk. The cab is going to be very Orange OBC’esque, as I just like the look.

The series of posts will be mostly photos, but I’ll add text when I feel something needs more explanation or to justify why I did something a certain way.

The first photos are of the woofer baffle board with the tee-nuts installed. I pre-drilled for the tee-nut tines as I didn’t want the tines to split the plywood. I also glued the tee-nuts in with liquid steel epoxy to keep them from loosening and causing rattles latter on.

Since this is a bass cabinet I am paying particular attention to possible vibration and choosing glues and fasteners to reduce the chances of rattles in the finished unit.

Here are photos of the cabinet in the early stages of assembly.

Here’s photos of the mid-range horn. The horn was mounted to the front baffle by setting it in place then surrounding the horn with 1/2” blocking to form a routing template. After removing most of the waste with a jigsaw, the balance was removed with a top bearing router bit, leaving a very professional fit.

The crossovers. I mounted the component caps & coils to one side of 1/4” ply with hot melt glue and a few zip ties. I then did the wiring from the back in slots I routed with a Dremel. Lastly, I potted the wiring with hot melt glue to provide some electrical insulation (actually to hide my nasty solder joints). I double checked all the soldering with an ohmmeter before potting the wiring.

Nice work, not too many omni 2x10's get built around here.

Though not yet functional, it at least looks the part!

Thanks all for the kind words. Of course all I see is what I could’ve done better :/. With that in mind, here is what I would’ve done differently:

_ I could not get the cane grille cloth to stretch evenly so there are ripples where the material covers the large open spaces. Thankfully the black color makes that less noticeable. I’ll probably use a rigid expanded metal grate next time.

_ practice my tolex application on a test box first. The framed angled front corners (think Orange Amp front corners) were a b!7@h, and contact adhesive (3M 90) is rather unforgiving.

_ your cutting knife needs to be surgically sharp! Buy scalpels on ebay. They’re sharper than exactos or utility knives!

I've got to say, cyclefiend1123, the cab looks stunning from my seat!

Is the grille cloth in a removable frame? If yes, add in some full length "braces" to help hold the grille cloth more taunt.

Absolutely practice, whether it's Tolex, carpet or DuraTex. Always worth the time and effort.

Great idea on the scalpels! My S-I-L works in a hospitals' surgical sterilization unit. I'll ask her next time I call if she can get them.
