Corner loading subs and avoiding the no go zone. I'm just shocked every time...can't believe how uniform and level the bass is through the whole room.

Do you know how much this forum has changed me? We are looking at new houses and I'm assessing the rooms for the suitability of sub placement!

I'm with you on that as a great piece of advice, but my opinion of the best would be:

IITP.

I know it's hard to read the plans 'before making with the sawdust' but in the world we have here, it is just plain required. So many questions are answered just by reading what Bill has already put down in writing, including a bit about sub placement and multiples and limiting and acceptable parameters and required drivers and component choices and required build materials and deployment and expected results etc. etc. etc.....

As for myself, I put my faith right out there, read as directed, built as instructed, deployed as indicated and see no need to complain at all.

While that advice is good for the subwoofers, the last line in my signature will get you going for the tops !

It's been a long time since I posted here. I'm still gigging of course, but I've gotten much more into production, recording, mixing, etc in the past few years. Just today I've moved my mixing desk to a supposedly horrible room. 22 x 9 x 8 rectangle room of concrete floor, sheetrock and brick. My previous location was a really big space with a sloped ceiling and I was at least 8 feet away from all boundaries. I can't do that in here. I'm right against a wall, on one end of the room, facing the long dimension. Everything is supposedly wrong you can think of. As before, I had the sub under my desk, but that put it about 6 feet from the wall and I was getting a big dip around 50 Hz. So I stuck it in the corner. Much smoother now and no crazy dips. For "acoustic treatment", right now I have a mattress on the wall behind me and that's it...really informal for the time being. Anyway, my mix position sounds awesome and it's still amazing to see the HUGE difference placement makes. Thanks again, to Bill for sharing this information. To this day its a complete game changer for me.

Good to see you again, Donny. Actually, a month or so ago, I was wondering what you were up to.

I just corner loaded my two tuba 43’s for the first time this weekend. 1200sqfoot oblong venue with the tubas firing at 45 degrees towards a brick wall corner. And OMFG it’s loud. Super overkill near the tubas but solid sound quality bass thruout the room. Equed it pretty flat down to 30hz using REW to measure. I feel like I got a 12db boost at least over forward firing. Didn’t even come close to clipping my 450 watts per sub at 8 ohms. Pieces of the roof were literally raining down including loose nails. I think building the tubas was the best thing I ever did for my little PA system. Dang it was seriously tight quality bass like an audiophile sub but 25x louder.

It's in the sub sticky, in the paragraph containing "prime directive".
Basically, don't place the sub mouths within 2 to 8 feet from a boundary or you will cause cancellations.
What those cancellations will be depends on frequency and distance...
