Anybody here use one of the products from LH Labs? What are your thoughts? It bypasses the on-board sound card and instead uses the USB to pass the sound which is claimed to be pristine. Here is a link to one of the products....

$200 for a 1w headphone amp is pretty steep. Most internal sound cards can deliver 1w with ease, and while they may not be flat an EQ plugin would take care of that.

EQ won't remove system noise and other nasty sounds cheap onboard makes...
For a budget headphone option, look at the UCA202 - there is a really good review & measurement of it online to prove that a cheap B product is still quite acceptable and actually impressive

True, but I was thinking more about if one were to use a laptop as a sound source to a PA or home stereo (HT).

If your laptop has a pretty big hard drive, and all of the music on it is in wav format, and not compressed as in an Mp3, then a good amp would be nice..if not it won't matter because you're playing compressed audio files with lots of audio loss anyway, so spending any $ on an amp would be wasted. Heavy b don't truck in any dem damn laptops
or any danged compressed (lossy) audio files

For that price you can get a small mixer with usb interface built in that has balanced io.

I have one and it does sound pretty good.

gonna 2nd this one. i use one to break out audio on most people's laptop to get into a mixer when I have to have them do presentation and such. its a good DAC.
