Question. Do I want to purchase an ALPHA-6CBMRA or is there a different Alpha 6 I should be looking at? Also do I want an open or closed back?

You want the Alpha 6A, or the AlphaLite 6A. Not the closed-back model.

Thanks Phatman. I saw more than one type so I wasn't sure. I will finally build a couple of SLA Pros. Been wanting to do this for a while. Saw the video from one of the members on here and it was a wrap!

Can someone tell me what are all the components Chris-Allen used for the cross-over for his SLA build. Like maybe a shopping list. His design looks so much simpler and I would like to do my
cross-overs just like he has his.

Don't overlook the Dayton PA-165. It's a near clone of the Alpha 6. It was my choice for my new rig, and we have used them in MANY many cabs with very few problems.

Hi! All my components were the same as the plans, the only difference was that I used terminal strips. I recall reading on here that terminal strips weren't very common in the US.

Okay thanks! I like the fact of not having to solder even though my soldering skills are slowly improving.

Just a couple of questions as I get together the parts for this SLA build. What size screws are you guys using for securing the woofers and tweeters. Also can anyone who has bought the speaker grills from Reliable Hardware
tell me the exact dimensions they used for the custom grill and how much of a bend on all 4 sides?

I am vacillating on the drivers for a short set of SLA Pro's I want to make, and I eventually will add a regular set of SLAs. The choice I make now will go for both sets. I am frugal, but not against spending for the Alpha 6. When I see the price of the Dayton's my frugal side takes over...

There is no noticeable difference and only a minute measurable difference in frequency response. Phase response is different so you v shouldn't use them in the same array as alphas, though. One or the other.


This is in cab response in something that resembles a sla pro.

That looks pretty definitive... I take it you use these professionally?

That response isn't possible, so I wouldn't trust those results. Something in your measurement protocol must have been way off.

Bill, I am betting that your answer is to stick with the plans/recommended speakers and feel frugal in the fact that I am getting much more for my money...?

It's a full range cab measurement. Only applicable to 3.5k crossover point. Further, regardless of the calibration, it shows that the daytons and eminence are virtually identical. This is an averaging of several of each cab.
