Hi Folks,

It's been a while since my last build but I moved house and my wife asked me to build a coffee table for the new lounge room.
Never one to let an opportunity go past, I needed a new HT setup as the last one was simply too big for the new room.

So... here is the new Tuba 18 disguised as a coffee table.....

The table is made of old fence palings and the legs are false.
The Tuba is sitting on 5cm blocks and the legs wrap around them giving a stronger look.
Hopefully these pics might help inspire a new build.

Beautiful work, though I would suggest a speakon connector if you have to move that (ie, for cleaning)

That is a nice "end" result.

May I suggest adding 4 more screws in the access panel?

Really? Seems fine with 8. It's definitely sealed. Guess I'll keep an eye on it.

Hey Neil
Gotta say I've seen a lot of old fence palings used for many things, but that is a fantastic result! :)

Don't wait to find out it may develop a leak a bit further down the track. +1 to Tom's suggestion...

In this configuration (side firing), to get max output you're tied to a wall or corner. In order to get better free space performance (yes, you'll lose wall loading) by downfiring, how much free air space from mouth to floor is optimal? How much is the minimum before getting chuffing? (And the first one to say "zero" wins a turd sandwich.)

Very nice looking and I'm guessing high WAF!

From fellow Aussie TT builder, well done...looks funky. What driver, amp...and sound quality?

I have the recommended Tang Band W8-740 in it. Running from a mid range Sony HT processor, no dedicated sub amp.
It is in a corner. Not quite a close as it should be but seems fine where it is and I tested the height of the legs. The base of the unit is only 4cm off the floor and I cannot hear any difference.
The interesting thing is that it is now overpowering the rest of my speaker setup. But I think it's just more efficient and needs balancing.
I'm building a full 21 driver/27 tweeter SLA system as we speak but, even once that's in place, I think I'll grab a dedicated sub amp so I can fine tune it to the room.

But, yes, maximum WAF for this one. The sub it replaces stood at 1.25m tall and blocked the window too much.
