I have been contracted to build a pair of Sla Pro's and T 39's.The purchaser understands he must buy a Behringer DCX 2496.He is also going to buy an amp to power all 4,subs on 1 side and tops on the other.I suggested he buy a Crown XLS 2500.Is there a better amp available for this system ?

If you're using premium drivers in the T39's, the amp specs are fine for what your propose.
The only "better" amp would be one that meets the same specs, or is similar, and has a good name.
At a better price...

If budget is an issue, look at the Crown XLI series. Not as lightweight, but still Crown, still rugged...

I have several Crown XLS amps (including a 2500) and I love 'em. But, for this situation, I'd suggest a QSC GX7. It has more power than the XLS2500, costs about the same and is about the same weight.

The 2500 is a little underpowered for subs with premium drivers. I use XLS1500s bridged for my subs.

But, for a one amp solution.....I like the QSC better.....and yes, I use GX7s in another rig that I run sound on.

Money is not the issue,i'm using the GX7 to power my T48's now and it was hard to get the voltage down to 56 volts.I'm ordering him 3012 LFs for subs and the Daytons for the SLA Pros.GX7 it is,thanks fellas.

What about one of the newer amplifiers with built in processing? For example the Peavy IPR 3000 DSP. It would eliminate the DCX. It has limiting, 5 band parametric EQ, x-over, delay, etc. The system would be about as simple as you can get.

Throw it in a 2U or 3U rack case, make an in/out panel for it with subs wired to 2, +2, mains to 1, +1, use 4 conductor speakon and it would be foolproof.

That's interesting....... The GX7 should be putting out 63 volts based on it's 1000 watts at 4 ohms rating.

Getting from 63 to 56 shouldn't be a problem. What processor were you using?

I would rather for him to have the DCX 2496 to do the limiting,he's a DJ,need i say more ? I believe i was getting somewhere around 80 volts from the GX7 on my meter when i was setting my limiter.

Does he have EQ and RTA?
That's the one downfall of the DCX2496, you basically need to get the DEQ2496 as well for greater EQ ability and RTA.

Despite the fact that money is not an issue, the DBX driverack series have the lot in 1RU. Less cost, less space in the rack etc etc etc...

One of the reasons i convinced him to go with SLA Pro's was because they sound good even without EQing.
The reason i suggested the DCX2496 is because thats what i use,thats what i can set up for him properly,ESPECIALLY the limiter.
Are the DBX limiters brickwall nowadays ?

I don't relish the idea of carrying only one power amp out to gigs, or even in a permanent install. Perhaps it is b/c I used to repair audio equipment and I've seen so many dead amps over the years. Amps are fairly reliable, but they do die, and you are likely to find out your amp is dead when you turn it on, miles away from a store, or during hours when stores are not open to get one. Just my two cents, but I'd rather have two amps, each capable of carrying the load as discussed here.

When I added my third pair of subs, I seriously considered an XTi 4002 to drive 'em all.....but, I just couldn't put all my eggs on one basket. Added one more matching amp to drive the extra pair. Takes more room, but I know I can limp through a gig with 4 subs instead of six. Going with none would be tough.
