Unfortunately, my 92 year old mother contracted it two weeks ago (she did have the shot). She passed away on Tuesday. After beating death for years with a bad heart - it was the flu that finally won.
So, don't take the flu lightly. Make sure that any kids and old folks in your life wash their hands often and go buy them some hand sanitizer and convince them to use it several times a day.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I just thought it was important to know.

Condolences to you and your family, Bruce.
One simple thing you can do is avoid contact with door handles. I always either pull in an inconvenient area of the handle (where people are least likely to choose to pull) or use a shirt or something else to pull it open.

Bruce, I'm sorry to hear that. My 90 year old Mom passed away earlier this year and we were able to celebrate a life well lived. I pray that is the case with your family also.
You've also helped me make a decision to not accept an invitation to visit my 97 year old uncle tomorrow. One of my daughters and I seem to be doing fine so we were thinking about going to visit. I don't think it would be fair to pass along a bug I might be carrying.

Sincerest condolences Bruce. 92 is a pretty good innings considering but it never takes away the grief when they do go suddenly like that. Our thoughts are with you.
We had a strain of flu here during our winter ( May to September ) that's similar to what you just described. The War Office got it and we had about 4 days of changing beds for her to sleep in because the mattresses were soaked with perspiration from the fever. We'd both had flu shots previous but seemed ineffective.
