Hello Everyone! I'm a newbie around here, been reading posts on the forum for the past few days. I must say there is an incredible amount of info and knowledge around here!!!! I will try my hand on one of these enclosures but first I need to figure out which. My question is this, I have had a Dayton Audio PA380-8 15" Pro Woofer sitting in my closet for some time now can I use this speaker in any of these enclosures?? The specs can be found here: https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-au ... r--295-034
Thanks.....

Hi kriptech,
Welcome to the forum :)

It's more of a "I want to build xxx cab, will this driver suit?" scenario rather than "I have this driver, what can it go in?" one.

I only say this because, we have no idea from your post what applications you are looking at, ie HT/PA/whatever.

Fill us in on your goals, it helps :)

Hi kriptech, and welcome to the forum!

What Grant posted is correct.

I did a bit of searching and found that the best fit is a T48, although, just. However, often it is best to run the subs in pairs in order to allow for the v-plate to be used.

If the Vas specs for the cabs have to be strictly followed since the range is already quoted in the plans, then there is no other alternative since the woofer that you have doesn't have the correct specs. Eliminated are: T60, J15, OT15, THT, Simplexx15. The rest of the cabs don't have a 15".

With only 5mm xmax and other borderline specs I wouldn't go to the trouble of a T48 build. It will work in an Simplexx 15. Any better cab than that would be deserving of a better driver.

Fully understood and I fully agree, Bill, but I compared it with the plans which stated a minimum of 5 mm xmax. :)

Gentlemen, thanks for your replies! First off, Vas specs and xmax is Chinese to me... Heck, I'm still trying to figure out what I am looking at with the graphs in other posts!!! If you guys would let me know if there is a primer or anything else that I can read to get me up to speed, I would greatly appreciate it. My goal is very simple, my son is getting into DJing and his system sounds good but lacking in the low end. I was just wondering if there is an enclosure that he and I could build where we can utilize the Dayton driver, this would allow us to get our hands wet with these enclosures and not break the bank until he and I get more practice (him DJing and me with woodworking). Thanks again for helping out!!!

The 5mm is the least that you can use, not the least that you should use. Doubling xmax quadruples the amount of power you can push. Or, to look at it from the other perspective, halving xmax reduces the power you can push by 3/4.
OP, you can use the driver you have in the T48, just be aware that it won't work nearly as well as a driver that specs out better.
