BFM setup on TV

Got a call at noon yesterday to provide sound at 6pm for a video taping of a TV show called The Rural Golfer. The host is Steve Elkington - he played on the PGA and Senior Tour for many years. It was shot at the club where I'm a member and the guests were Randy Rogers and Les Lawless of The Randy Rogers Band.

They did a bunch of golf taping (obviously), but wanted to do a little concert to have some music footage in the show. The production company didn't secure any sound for the event, so the GM of the club and Les called me to bail 'em out.

The show is set to air on November 28th (the day after Thanksgiving) at 9:30 ET on RFD TV. It's available on Dish and Direct TV....also on their website.

I'm sure that the music portion will be very short, but there should at least be some of it in the final cut. You won't see any of the gear or setup, but at least you can hear it......I hope it sounds good.

Well, that was disappointing.....

All the footage they shot of the mini-concert and not a single bit on the show.....but, I did get paid.

And since the cash came from Elkington, I can honestly tell my golfing friends that I took $500 of Elk's money at the golf course. They don't need to know the rest of the story.

One final note on this.....

I found out that the reason there wasn't any footage of the music was that the publishing company was demanding $1500 for the rights to use any part of the song that was supposed to be on the show.

Randy Rogers was more than willing to pay for it himself, but it was on a short timeline to get edited, so it was left out.

Interesting that the guy who wrote the song and performed the song would have to pay his own publishing company to get the song on a TV show.....seems like the publishing company would see it as good advertising leading to more sales. Oh well.......

There is a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff that goes on that we never are aware of.
