Hi everyone,

Looking to pickup a decent quality 8-12 channel mixer, happy to pick up one second hand. Have a budget of about $500Aud

Have been looking at A&H zed 12, soundcraft epm 12, mackie 1402 vlx, Yamaha Mx series. All seem much of a muchness

Not really sure exactly what I'm looking for but would be good to have say

- low noise preamps with an ability to deal with low voltage inputs

- at least four mono inputs with switchable phantom power, hi-z on one or two

- two stereo aux sends for monitors

- pair of stereo ins

-faders rather than pots

-usb or firewire would be nice, with ability to send individual tracks into a DAW a bonus.

Would rather a better sound than extra routing or half-baked effects, so ok to look into older bulkier desks and for go connectivity.

Alternatively does anyone have experience with the larger Allen and Heath xone DJ mixers with dual mic inputs? E.g xone 62,92, 342

Could I get away mixing a small guitar duo on one of them?

The place I am doing live sound for bought a A&H ZED 16, and it is very good!
Artists are the likes of Tania and Ray Kernaghan.
So a ZED 12 should also be fine.

I would worry about trying to put guitars in with RCA's though, on a DJ type mixer.

If you're going to go really old with a mixer, I would suggest one that is modular (ie the channel strip input, output and master boards are removeable), rather than all in one boards.
Mostly for repair purposes...

Good luck with that.....those old boards are huge and heavy. The crappy ones are all gone and the really good ones are very expensive to buy and get parts for.

Face it....we're in a throwaway world when it comes to electronics.

There's a O1V for sale in on the "For Sale" board.....it's cheap and would give you a lot of options.

But the O1V is in the US and the OP is an Aussie.

There's not a whole lot on Aussie ebay that fits $ wise either that I would buy, at least, not with the desired features.

There is an 01V starting at $500...

I've had a look at the 12 channel ov1 on ebay and it seems pretty well featured. Have either of you used one?

Could stretch past $500 if I was going to get a good deal.

I've never used one but they've been proven over time. I use the Presonus StudioLive mixer. I've also used Yamahas, analog and digital, but not the O1V.

The 01V posted in the for sale section used to be mine. I am seriously considering buying it back, it is just that good.

Theres a Mackie Onyx 1220 for 280.

No Firewire expansion card.

Good deal as something to start?

There is a firewire card available for that mixer. It might be expensive though if it is only available via Mackie, if the 1220 is still a current production model.
Get onto Mackie or the Aussie distributor to find out, before you buy.
Aussie distributor is CMI ( http://www.cmi.com.au/ )

It's probably a better entry level option than some of the other brands around...

I have a ZED22 and it's awesome. USB is ONLY stereo though....always read the fine print

If you can find one I'd go Behringer DDX3216. I basically stole one it was so cheap and it's really a nice board.
