The start: 6 x T30's @ 24"

#1 Post by commander_dan »

So.. my brother and I had this build in the pipeline for nearly a year and we have finally got our acts together and started. The plan being for us to have separate systems that can couple together to make one large system for when we need to. We have started with my 2 T30's, and will continue his 4 once he can get all the parts together. I plan to build 2 O-top 12's to go with my subs, and I think he is thinking along the same lines, which would give us 4 O-tops and 6 Tubas at the end.

We decided to begin by building one sub at a time with the first 2 due to being woodworking novices. I'm glad we went this way due to the learning curve. We started 3 days ago, with one day being spent solving our sawing problems and making jigs and the like. We have access to some good gear via my father who has a basic woodworkshop in his back shed, but we discovered his main table saw wasn't able to accurately cut square, so we had to make a panel jig for it despite it having its own rails/sled/jig system.

I've taken photo's of each step and panel install so will try to upload as many as I can.

Thanks Grant! Yeah we are taking great care with our measurements and installation techniques and are slowly getting faster and better at it. It's definitely taking longer than we thought it would though, but that's fine as we're in no rush.

Day 3 continued..

We got the insides of the cab completed, and just ran out of time to tackle the install of the 2nd side which we are still trying to get our heads around. We decided to run with a pneumatic brad nailer as our fastening device, which has worked brilliantly so far, but I fear that the pilot hole lines drawn on the 2nd side wont be dead on where the panel joints will be, so we are devising a way to accurately do this. More photo's to come once the cab is complete hopefully today.

Question: How soon after the 2nd side is installed can we start leak testing? Do we wait an hour to let the PL begin to set first, or can we do it straight away once it is fastened? Thanks in advance.

Noted, thanks for that Sine.

Day 4 and we got the thing assembled and leak tested, happily there were no leaks and after a short program test on a completely flat eq I must say that I was most impressed by the output of this sub! It weighed in at 38kg's which isn't too bad considering we used marine ply. This cab will be finished later on while we get a start on number 2 next week. May I inquire, fellow Aussie's, where abouts I might find Duratex or something of the like in Perth WA? Thanks!
