OT12, T39, W6 at outdoor fair

#1 Post by yigba »

Played a decent sized outdoor church fair a few weekends back and utilized my BFM rig. I used 4 OT12's - these are the older ones - I bought them used here on the forum. They have compression drivers instead of an array and I added the horn diffuser piece to 2 of them. So I lined them up on stage with the diffuser pair on the bottom and the other pair on top for a nice little line array on opposite sides of the stage.

I placed 2 t39's in the center in front of and below the stage in that recommended 90 degree angle.

My rig is nice and small - a Mackie DL1608, a BSS FDS-336 DSP, 2 Crown XLS1500's and an Ashly KLR2000 bridged. I use one of the XLS1500's for the tops, one side of the other Crown for the Wedgehorn 6 and the other side for 3 TC Helicon Voicesolo monitors (my keyboard player, my drummer and the sax guy uses these). I and my bass player share the W6, which I built myself. We use the Ashly for the T39's.

Now I know my speakers are opposite of what the recommended settings are in that the OTops should overpower the T39's but in this case they did not. I probably only used about 10-15 volts for the OT12's (looking at the attenuators on the Crowns and their little digital gauge thingies). That's all I needed to sound nice and full out front. And the sub frequencies were quite apparent too.

I must say this is the best the band has ever sounded from a PA standpoint. It was so full and clear it was ridiculous. I was worried about the W6 and its volume capability but two of us shared it and we weren't near its limits. And no feedback at all.

If we didn't already have those other little monitors I would build more of the W6's (but my wife would probably kill me!!)

I cannot rave enough about this system and these speakers.
