New Speaker Plan Request For Bill

Bill,
Now that I am spending so much time in the garage woodshop, it would be really nice to upgrade the garage/shop speakers to something more suitable to listen too while I spend time in the shop making the good cabinets for inside the house. It kind of drives me nuts that I spend 12 hours on a weekend in the garage making good speakers but having to listen to speakers I don't like that made it to the garage

and sound even worse with the shop acoustics. I got into this hobby to listen to good speakers and I find myself doing more of the opposite.
Do you have any speaker designs or plan ideas that did not make your top shelf cut for home theater or pro use, but might be perfect for a simple shop or garage 2-way or 2.1 system? A BFM Garage System would really kick but. aka Tuba Garage System TGS
Maybe, something that could be built in a weekend, works in garage/shop acoustics, that sounds good 20' away while I am sniffing PL fumes with the garage door open. Like a David, but much simpler to build with only one side with a small horn that plays down to 40 Hz? I think piezos would work good to hear over shop tools, compressors, and nail guns. I wouldn't mind buying plans, a single 4' by 8' of plywood, small cheap 8" woofer, two cheap buyout mids, some piezos, crossover components, and small plate amp to run a woofer since I hear my shop stereo more than my home system.
What do you listen to in the shop? What do you suggest?
C-

Auto/truck tuba or a Tabletuba, combined with an SLA or two.

That's funny, I'm actually looking forward to setting up all the stuff that's been "kicked to the garage" since I have been building some BFM. I originally had plans to build a Dayton 6.5"/silk tweet MTM for use a CC. Now that I have decided to build a curved SLA, I will just have to get another set of components to build another matching MTM and use it in the garage with the 12" ported sub I no longer use since I built a TTLS. that and the cheapie Denon AVR that was upgraded to a Marantz with Audyssey... it's all a process I guess. As the house sound gets the much better, the garage gets the old stuff and well... better.

My old Atlantic Technology matched subwoofer set is going on craigslist to fund future projects. Once in the garage for awhile, they are not worth selling anymore. Right now I have a hodge podge of 4 different speakers in the garage and I need to update. My best stuff goes to the living room entertainment system, second tier stuff goes to the den for music listening only, and then whatever that I don't want to use it in the garage, is offered to my ex wife.
I am building a TAT for the garage or call it a TGT. Got panel 1 and 2 glued up today. I have 4 GRS 6.5" woofers and 4 piezo tweeters I bought and haven't used so I will cobble together a MTTM and use the high level inputs and outputs on an old sub amp to power both the TGT and MTTM. The MTTM should be good enough for the garage, at least better what is in there now. With two piezos as side I should get good off axis dispersion.
The TGT will be 17" wide by 20" by 22" and I will use an infinity 1060 in it. It will fit under the work bench nicely and I can still stack tool cases on top of it. I measured it and will also nicely fit in the trunk in my Crown Vic if I choose to add a subwoofer.

Are you doing a melded array.....for dispersion?

I might have to build something along this line as well, SLA/AutoTuba sounds reasonable.
Right now I'm using a recycled band of misfits to power my workshop. Starting with an Onkyo TXDS575x (no internal amp sound due to bad DSP board) as a tuner/switch into a generic (Coustic?) 11band eq, powered with a Sanyo DCA411 integrated amp my dad bought in the late 70's. All this drives a pair of Bose 201's that used to be my first surround speakers (pre Dolby ProLogic equipment garage sale purchase from the early 90's.)
*(don't tell Bill about the Bose, he'll kick me out of the club!)

I am thinking half size SLA Pros would be perfect for a garage setup. Build with 2 Dayton six inchers and a couple Goldwood piezos per box. Doesn't get much cheaper than that for great sound. Flavor to taste with your sub of choice. I am concidering building 4 of the mini Pros for my back yard, but need to figure out a way to protect them from the elements. It was 111 degrees here yesterday and rained last night.
