A customer is asking about it for his rig and I've never used one. He has a pretty complex system that he's setting up so the typical DSP's aren't gonna cut it.

Can't speak for the Rane product but I like the Symetrix Solus quite a bit. They have some larger I/O count products too. If you need wall remotes with a display, the Rane products are a little nicer, but far more expensive.

If all you need is a crossover/delay system, also look at the Ashly Protea 24.4. It's not open architecture, but it's basically a great big system processor which happens to handle mic inputs too.

Off topic: a Solus 8 has been installed in our church with a remote box which I presume is for different EQs since one button is for 'pulpit', one for 'music' (handheld mic), one for 'wireless', and one for 'mute'. Occasionally at the start of a service, it seems that the EQ is set on 'music' rather than wireless since the pastor's voice is bassy with poor clarity. Anybody come across this?

I haven't used the Rane but I have used the BiAmp Audia and Nexia which are both wonderful devices.
If you have a complex installation with things like multiple delay zones exterior lobbies, etc these devices are really nice. You program them with software resembling (or actually is ) Visio. Drag and drop processing like EQ, Delay, Meters, compression/limiting, volume control into each input or output signal path. Only issue with the BiAmp products is that they do "thump" when you turn them on so you must be sure your power amps are off or turned down, or you use a power sequencer for system start up and shutdown.

Nexia is a nice product line, but you have to be an authorized Biamp dealer to get them. They aren't available through distribution any more. The Symetrix Solus and Symnet products can do everything Nexia can, and are loads easier to program, and less expensive.
