Re: SLA and Tuba 18 build
I'm re-doing the Baffles to the flat array's,as you can see they are considerably lighter than the rest of the build.I was going to use Tung Oil instead of stain but after doing the baffles I determined that it was much too light so I went with Red Oak #215 stain which didn't cover the Tung Oil too good.I already started re-doing them. The rest looks real nice. The wood is 1/2" BB.I also spaced the drivers out a small amount to give me enough room to route horns for the midbasses.

BB is so much fun to stain. Looks good.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

Re: SLA and Tuba 18 build
Looks good! Quick question, why didn't you put tweeters in the curved SLA? For 5.1 viewing, there is a lot mixed to the centre that is in the range of the tweeters.

Re: SLA and Tuba 18 build
Thanks fellas. I didn't add tweeters to the center channel because according to the SLA plans:
"...you can make life much simpler and not use tweeters at all.
"...the HF response is adequate for most center channel program material"
The make life simpler part got me
plus this is going in my bedroom so I don't want it really loud. The filter is a 8KHZ so I may not be missing too much.I hooked it up to a Pioneer VSX-108 Receiver,it sounds real nice even without any eq.Center channel sounds a lot more present,i had to use them with the Pioneer Sub that came with the receiver and of course the SLA's drowned out the sub.I will be shopping for a Onkyo or Denon 5.1 receiver with multi EQ soon.

Re: SLA and Tuba 18 build
I gotta invest in a new Drill Press,i drilled the 32 3 inch holes in the new baffles for the flat arrays and it took me over 3 hours, outside in my driveway (I live in Detroit).I used a 3 inch hole saw bit. After SLOWLY cutting into the wood then applying pressure, the Drill Press would start to lag, then I would have to raise up for the motor to speed up,the smell of burning wood, apply pressure, the motor slows up,raise up again, take baffle out of drill press, shake sawdust loose, blow hole clear, put piece back in Drill press, lower and align press, raise lever, turn press on,lower press, smell of burning wood, apply pressure, hole complete.Raise lever, turn press off.Stick screw driver down in the hole saw bit,pry hot wood cut out from hole saw bit, discard, clean hole saw bit with wire brush to remove caked on sawdust,go in the house and have a sip of coffee with 31 more to go.I have it running at its highest speed, maybe I need to lower it some,i don't recall having that problem b4 I raised I speed.36 1 inch holes to do tomorrow and its snowing but I gotta get er done.

Re: SLA and Tuba 18 build
Next time you drill 32 3 inch holes, you may want to first drill a few holes right inside the circle, touching on it if you will, so as to have a few sink holes for the saw dust to fall through. Something like a 1/4" or 3/16" drill bit will do. Make one touch down with the hole saw first, then you can see exactly where to drill the small holes. Make sure to stay inside the outer diameter of the final cut and away you go.
This trick makes for a much faster and cleaner cut. The sawdust can get away, so the saw does not clog and overheat. Longer life for the saw, faster cut, more joy for the builer. Double win.
