Okay I saw on here a while back a genius method for mounting grilles. I have searched and searched. If anybody remembers it please post the link. I think it was this last summer. I thought I bookmarked the thread, but no go.

I looked for that one with the silver metal panels and the inside clamping system. I'm tired... but if that's the same one, I can't find it right now, either.

That's probably the thread Leland's talking about. The OP gave a decent description of how it's done and I could probably muddle my way through it, but I'd really like to see a pictorial of how exactly it's done.

Absolutely. Haven't decided what to do regarding grills on the speakers I have to build, but this is definitely an attractive way to go.

If I knew about this particular grill mounting method when I built my OTops I would have absolutely went with it. It seems MUCH easier and is definitely a lot more attractive than the usual "cut triangle-shaped cleats, stick them around the mouth and screw the grill to the cleats" method.

We should take all these great build pics and great ideas like the grills and put them in the Tips and Techniques sub-forum. It's getting kinda stale in there.
So who's gonna do this?

Not sure that's the one, but that one is really good. Thanks. I'll take some pics when I do it.

What cabinet do you remember seeing it on?
I'll find it with that info.

Well, second thought is that's the one. Pretty sure. Thanks for that Scott.

Hey Leland,
Have a look at how I did the grills on my 290s..
The grill was prepared with a 16mm (5/8") bend on all four edges. The OD of the grill was 12mm (1/2") smaller
then the ID of the cab's opening, resulting in a 6mm (1/4") clearance all around.
Four threaded blocks, made of 25*6mm (1"*1/4") stock, were attached, two at the top and two at the bottom like so:
The blocks were located so that the threads match holes in recesses at to top and bottom of the cab.
The bottom recesses (and bolts) took the cab's feet, the top recesses are for positive locking when stacking the cabs.

Nimrod, I think I have asked before: won't you stop posting detailed pics of the solutions you come up with. You make me feel quite inadequate.
Just kidding, just kidding. Keep it coming, you are a source of inspiration

This is smoooooooooooth like buttah! I really like how the blocks fasten through circular recesses in the top/bottom, which also serve dual purposes. That's just genius.

Perhaps this just shows that I'm new around here, but what's a DR290? Is it half DR280 and half DR300?

older design, it referenced the dr280 with CD horn of the dr300.
