I, too chose the Otops over the DR250 b/c of the build complexity and sacking ease. . I am not disappointed. I built a pair in my Garage last spring and managed to keep the mess to a minimum. These things pretty much destroy any commercially available speaker out there, pound for pound. I now have 4 oTop 12's (2 melded, 2 CD) and 4 T-39's

I've got a whole double garage and the place is worse than a pig sty when I build! :)

As for the DRs, I want to build them now for two reasons:
1) To see if I can (which I think I could, but there would be a lot of :wall: involved)
2) To see what they sound like next to my Otops

If I'm being really honest with myself though, the Otops will do all that I need. I just want to build something as I enjoy building so much, and a DR250 looks like it would keep me busy for ages, unlike Otops which can be built in no time!

dswpro, when you say 2 of your otops are cd driven does that mean a horn on a compression driver.
If so how do you find them compared to the melded ones???
I'm a bit nervous of the cutting up etc of the tweeters and glueing etc and was keen on using horns.
Ta,

Ta,
Since I have the exact same setup, I'll give you my impressions....we'll see if they jibe with dswpro's....

Yes, 2 of the Otops are loaded with compression drivers and two with melded arrays.

I had the CD versions first and then built the melded. Honestly, I don't hear any great difference in sound between the two and they play well together. The melded array though, has a much wider dispersion. This is very evident and really extends the sound field.

If you are playing in environments where the audience will be to the sides and fairly close - the definitely build the melded array. If the audience is going to always be back far enough for the extra 30 degrees of dispersion to not matter - then take your choice.......not many people are in this situation all the time though.

Cheers Bruce,
Everyone will be in front of the stage to the point I may even have to toe in the tops possibly.
With most people 5 to 15 metres away so I'll give the cd horns ago.
Ta,
