Powersoft D2004

So I've managed to uncover a Powersoft D2004 for what seems like a bargain price and I'm considering picking it up. Specs claim 1000w@4ohm 1khz. I currently have a QSC GX5 which the Powersoft would be replacing to streamline my rack which does 700w@4ohm 1khz.
I'd be using it to run 4 subs at a respectable level as Powersoft are supposedly cracking amplifiers. Someone tell me why this is a stupid idea as I'm not seeing a downside really.

all depends on price and condition.
its 1 u, does more power than your gx5, but it is at the bottom of the line as far as powersoft is concerned. Should SMASH a gx5 though.

That's all I really care about, the GX5 will do 4ohm operation but I'm wondering at what point it'll set itself on fire if ran too hard. Currently I've got no plans to expand outside of 4 tops and 4 subs. The Powersoft is available for cheaper than what I paid for the GX5 (320 quid) and is an ex demo from a company rather than a random ebay seller.
Cheap Powersoft has to be better than cheap QSC, right?
1U!

For 320 quid snag it.

My thoughts exactly. I've sent them an email enquiring what the deal is with it. If I find out it's just been ex-demo and lived in a rack for a couple of years I'll bite their hand off.
Cheers, I'll let you know what goes on.

I believe Leland either is, or was, a Powersoft dealer. As you so eloquently stated, they are cracking a$$ power amps, that should send the GX5 running home to it's mama! For 320 quid, HELL THE 'EFF YEAH, you better snag it.

He definitly used to stock some of their plate amps but i believe they were too expensive to sell well with the diy community. ive only heard the k series in action (and ive heard these are the "best" powersoft amps), but tbh on that scale of things (red bull event, big racks and stacks) its pretty hard to judge the quality of the sound by the amps in use.

If you're only running 4 subs, and they are all on the same amp, it's a case of putting all your eggs in one basket should the amp go down.
Designing a good sounding power amp isn't any great technological feat these days. Speakers are the biggest variable in reproducing quality sound. I bet in blind listening tests most people couldn't identify one amp over another.

Haha I won't get rid of the GX5 purely because things dying is my worst nightmare. I'd just like to get to a point where I keep it as a spare in its own little case as opposed to being hauled everywhere, weighing my rack down.
I suppose picking up the Powersoft and transferring the GX out to run alongside it is doable. Running all amps at barely past walking pace can't be a bad thing.

They finally got back to me, they have 2 on offer both well used but well looked after.
Sorry for the delay getting back to you but I have been away a couple of days. That is indeed the price but you have made me feel we are really underselling them so if you would like to donate more we will happily accept
Cheeky!
Anyone looking for them, click here. I'm gonna skip on them due to having other shit to pay for. ...though if they're still there after payday

Dang it, I could have bought one.

Just joking. Not too bothered. Besides i havent got my head round heavy ass limiting, and whether turning the amp back down after setting the limiter is the MO. Head scratching. Have you got it worked out?

Always run the smp wide open. turn down from the mixer section to stay bellow limiter.

+1 same here. But then again my amp clips almost always when I run into my limiter (low frequency content).
