One of my favourite USA beers just came onto the shelf at Countdown Supermarket. Samuel Adams. The real deal, made in USA. Things are looking up.

Mind you, "there's always a faster gunslinger comes into town" as Bruce Gavin oft said, and yes Samy Adams would have to go quite a way to match the star of NZ micro brew;

That may be true, but Sam Adams is far from being top of the line American craft brew. It's good for what it is, and some of their limited edition stuff is really good, but it's still a mass produced lager.

I could only see the price on the Sam Adams, how expensive is it compared to the local brews of similar quality?

Yuengling isn't really anything special. Oldest family owned brewery in the country, so the history is cool, but the beer is average.

Yes it's expenisive, but only because it's new, considered niche etc. It will come down in price soon I bet, even though the label says it's on special.

For those 6 x 330ml bottles, $NZ14.99 = $US 11.99 = $AU13.90 = EU8.94 = Pounds Sterling 7.80.

Equivelent quality NZ beer ranges form $NZ 19.99 to $NZ 24.99 per dozen of 330 ml.

That 'Three Boys beer goes for $7.00 per 500ml bottle, but it's damn well worth it because of the quality. I've never drunk another beer that could equal Three Boys for quality ( and taste for that matter ) either.

With Harley's double post it looks like he all ready started drinking it.

I was working with a dude from Belgium once and he was going on a business trip to London. When he got back I asked him what he thought of English beer.

He didn't speak very good English, but he looked me right in the eye and said carefully "English Beer is like fucking in a canoe".

"Eh"? I inquired.

"Ya ..... " he continued "...fucking close to water".

I have actually tried one of their IPA's - in Beijing of all places Can't remember too much about, it was a loooooooong session.

Yup, I've no idea why anyone over here drinks the stuff. The beer you'll find in most highstreet pubs is woeful, the stuff on tap is generally poor. You CAN find little oldschool pubs that get stuff on tap from microbreweries which is usually really good.

...that said your man went to LONDON where pubs water down the already piss-weak beer and charge you fucking loads for the privilege. When in London always buy bottled, shit on tap will be just that, shit. Because London hates everyone and wants to make you as miserable as the people that live there.

He was definitely in the wrong place to drink beer.

Not bad prices for beer, here in Ontario the CHEAP stuff is $1 a beer (actually a little more, $25/24) and that stuff is terrible. Anything decent you are looking at $2/beer.
