DEQ2496 availabilty

I decided to prioritise my PA spending on getting a DEQ2496 first, on the basis that it'll be available as soon as my W8's are built and, in the meantime, having decent RTA and EQ abilities will help wring the most out of the cheap Chinese Mackie clones that we're using as a temporary PA.

I've been aware of DEQ's for years (since one of my old bands used to have one). They've been listed new, ex-stock for around £220-230 for as long as I can remember and naively thought I would be able to pop in an order on-line and get one next day, but to my surprise nobody seems to have one in stock and the prices are all over the map - between £208 on the low end to a massive £386 at the top end. Unsuprisingly the lowest prices listed are all with suppliers that don't have any - I guess retailers can sell stuff as cheap as they like if they don't actually have any product to sell

So, for a popular unit to suddenly go out of stock and prices all over the place usually smacks of dealers running down their stocks of a unit that's just about to go obsolete, or to clear shelf space for an upgraded unit that's waiting in the wings.

I know Behringer are supposedly introducing a whole bunch of new stuff in the May timeframe, I thought that was for stuff like the x32 Compact, Producer, Rack etc, but since people on here are almost certainly more in the know than I am, are there any whispers of a 'new' version DEQ2496; or is it more likely normal supply chain peaks and troughs?

Who knows? But if there is a new product coming I wouldn't buy a first gen version, and what 2496s remain would be blown out at closeout pricing.

I had to buy mine from some French guitar store online as they were the only place 'nearby' that had one for under £270... Ridiculous!

*edit: it was euroguitar and it seems they no longer sell them.

behringer has been changing a lot of things recently. In the US, they just switched distribution from shore view to starin. this may have had an affect on stock levels worldwide. At least here, there have been massive disruptions and availability on certain occasions. Many vendors have dropped them entirely. also, they are having a known shortage with one of their digital encoding chips which may affect the EQ as well as some of their other products. further, is in fact they are gearing up for a large product release, they may have let stock levels run low on some of the less popular products like the DEQ in order to make production line available for the new products.

Thanks, that's useful information. There are a couple of on-line dealers I use quite regularly (DV247 and Studiospares) so I've got emails in with them to give me a delivery date.

I have found one dealer with one in stock - could get next day delivery, but at £285 (£45 more expensive than the other guys - and I could buy the RTA mic for that). Getting the unit by Wednesday would give me a couple of days 'learning curve' before using it with the band, but if the delivery time is reasonable with the usual guys I'll wait and get the mic as well.

Can't imagine paying the £386 that one guy wants (even though it's in stock) 'cos I can buy a Driverack for that sort of cash
