Cheap Paint

I bought a HUD home at the start of the year so I've been doing a fair amount of remodeling; been learning a few things.

I got a can of flat ceiling paint from Menards free after mail-in rebate thinking, hey it's free basement needs ceiling paint. Not really sure what I was expecting, but this is possibly the worst paint I've ever used. It's like watercolors, but they expect you to use it on a cieling. I honestly didn't even know they made paint this bad. But, I'm only out 77 cents for tax and I've got two cents to share next time someone thinks they can get away with cheap paint. Don't do it.

By the by, I do love duratex. Almost makes me want to buy the white stuff and just spray it all over my house.

As a maintenance guy I understand. Cheap paint must be sprayed (repeatedly), not rolled. It doesnt cover well, you can see lines in your work, etc. No fun!

Interesting that it works better with spraying because that's how I did the rest of the ceilings (using decent paint and 2 coats). I would consider using it, but if it takes more than two coats bent backwards with a loud sprayer, I'll spend the 20 bucks and get decent paint. Plus, the stuff smells really weird. Not much like VOCs, but like some kind of weird faintly rancid smell...

Are you sure they did not sell you a gallon of milk and tell you it was paint? That would explain both the coverage and the smell.
