First BFM build started (J112)

This is my very first cabinet build. I'm building a J112 to be used as a bass cabinet with a deltalite 2512 and 8 tweeters (I might use it as a PA speaker eventually, but for now, it's a practice/small gig cab). I'm probably going to be asking an assload of questions, but thats why i'm on this forum, right? My woodworking experience is pretty minimal, so this cab is gonna be far from perfect.

So i started cutting my plywood when i got home today. I cut all the main pieces except the baffle. My table saw blows though, so one of the top/bottom panels is almost a 1/4 inch short. I hope this isnt gonna cause problems, cause i really don't want to buy another sheet of plywood for a 1/4 inch mistake. And thats about as far as i got today. OOOHH YEAH! :D. I'm going to finish cutting tomorrow afternoon and maybe start assembling.

I also found a Behringer ultrabass BX4500H for $150 on craigslist from a used elctronics store. It looks like its in great condition. Gonna drive down there sometime this weekend and check it out. Anybody have any input on that bass amp?

Hi izzy,

Regarding your 1/4" error and if that's a problem.
It depends entirely on which panel it is on, and where you can place that error as to if that's a deal breaker.
The acceptable tolerance is 1/8" generally, as PL will expand that much.

So tell us where the error is.

Other than that, I can see you're excited about your build and that's great.

There's an old saying: "Measure twice, cut once".
Slow down, so that you don't make more errors.
You may not have to buy a whole 8 x 4 (Smaller sizes should be available that would cover the panel in question). However, since your eventual plan is possible PA as well, it may pay to suck it up and buy the ply for cab 2 and another sheet to cover your error (and possible others) as well, and build both cabs at the same time, but put drivers and tweets in one cab only...

The 1/4" error is on the 21" inch side of the top/bottom panel. That error came from my crappy table saw though. The guide moved while i was cutting. My home depot sells my plywood in 2x4 sheets, so i should be able to replace it. I still don't really want to though.... I'll just use that one as the top of the cabinet, so if its a problem with final assembly, i'll replace it then. Other than that my cuts are all within 1/16 of an inch.

And I'm not planning on building it into a PA for a long while, at least a year from now. I don't currently have the need or the funds.

I have never used it so cannot comment on that aspect. It doesn't cost that much more new though, seems to be available for about €200 over here.

Well, i finished the cab finally. I think it looks pretty good for a woodworking amateur like me. Now I'm faced with the daunting task of wiring the damn thing. Any tips about how to do that would be greatly appreciated. I i can wire each individual filter easily, but i have no idea how to put it all together.
