I recently purchased a DEQ2496 and Behringer ECM 8000 RTA Mic.I was wondering if a 42 foot wide 69 foot long yard surrounded by a privacy fence be big enough to properly RTA my system. Also i cant find any info in the manual telling me how far to set the Mic up from the speakers,i think Bill suggested having the speakers about 20 feet apart, turned slightly outward. Thanks for any feedback, meanwhile i'm searching the forum for the answers.

To get a base reading you just need to be at least 30 feet from any buildings. Put the mic 10 to 20 feet from the speaker. Only measure one, you don't want multi-path issues messing up the result.

You may get an "ambient noise to high" type error when trying to RTA with the DEQ.
Check your manual, but IIRC the large right wheel turns up the gain on the pink noise.
Adjust gain until RTA is successful.
Remember to save your baseline resulting from RTA as "System tune" or something like that.

You can also compare by simply RTA'ing the yard first, but that's really just for interests sake.

While you have it setup, practice using your Auto EQ as well. By rights that shouldn't be any different from the RTA baseline...

No worries :)

If I can help in any other way (other than with FBD, which I haven't got into totally yet), give us a yell...

In room you want to place the measurement mic either in the FOH or in the middle of the primary listening area, RTA with everything up and running. You can never get perfect response throughout a room, so use one of those options and don't go nuts trying to get it right everywhere.
