Recone kit/service for vintage Goodmans Audion 15-P

Slightly off topic still relevant, just about!

Many years ago I had a rough sounding Goodmans Audiom 15-P that finally fried after too much bass guitar. I replaced it with an HH speaker which still provides good service today but I also kept the goodmans thinking 'I must fix this one day'. I still love the look of those old WEM cabs, vintage cool!

The one on the left still has the other 15-P that's still in good working order, the one on the right has the HH driver in. And the valve amp is the amplifier that destroyed the speaker in the first place. A much modded Linear componented, Marshall circuited, 6550 powered 60w monster! :hyper:

And don't worry, I have no plans to load this, the other Audiom 15-P or indeed my HH driver into a T48!

I have had a trawl on the net and can't really find anywhere that provides any info on the repair of one of these lovely old units. Can anyone offer any thoughts, reccomendations or suggestions with restoration?

:feedback:

We have a few companies that make repair parts and the odd place that custom builds recones for any driver. I'm sure you can find something similar.

I googled "Speaker repair Newcastle UK" and got:

http://www.djrepairs.co.uk/speaker-repa ... -and-wear/.
You might think a DJ place is the last place to go, but hey, it doesn't hurt to ask.

Never thought of searching for that as I couldn't think of anyone locally! Cheers Grant.. :hyper:

I found a place in Wembley / London that maybe suitable too.

My concern is the fact that it's not simply a straight forward drive unit. It is a dual concentric which is no biggie but it's not in the usual modern way with a flared lightweight whizzer cone. The HF assembly is attached right in the base of the main cone and the end has soft cloth dome.

I've been tackling a badly rubbing coil on an SRO / EVM15-L over the last few days and I think I've got it sorted so it's inspired me to finally sort the 15-P.

Unless the cone is shot, the repair may end up just be adding in a new voice coil. Tricky, but can be done.

You'll be able to tell if that DJ speaker place is up to it soon enough.
And if they are up to scratch and can't repair it, they'll tell you exactly the right person to go and see...

Well unfortunately the above company couldn't help, they don't do recones..

Not to worry, gonna talk to the guys at Bullet and see if they can do for me.

In the mean time I've bought an old Celestion G15C just because it was cheap and looked pretty cool. I can't help myself! :bash:

Need to get building these T48s and OmniTop12s insted! They ain't gonna build themselves!
