Peavy IPR with T48/DR250

I currently have two T48s and two DR250s but plan on doubling the size of the system. I am looking at replacing my current amps with two Peavey IPRs. I'm wondering if I should buy 2 of the 3000's or 1 - 3000 and 1 - 1600? I am using the Behringer DCX for crossover and limiting.

Either one would work just fine. The 3000 might be better for a quad stack of t48. Its always nice having more than you need, however the 1600 is a very capable amp too. I'd probably go with a 1600 for the tops and the 3000 for the bottoms.

-1. Even though the DR250 does not "need" the extra power that the 3k provides, there is a noticable difference in SQ when pushing hard. I run 3ks on the woofer section of my Dr200s, with good results. I tried the 1600s, and the headroom does make a difference. The DDT limiters on the amps work really well and sound good for limiters, but having the extra headroom for transients is beneficial.

Thanks for the input. I think I will go with two of the 3000's. The cost difference is a few dollars but I think it is well worth it. At least there isn't a weight difference anymore.

Quite the contrary. Better tie them down on outside gigs or they will float away on the first sign of a breeze.
