So I have been hearing about Meyer speakers from a couple of friends lately. Evidently very expensive stuff.
Is this another over hyped name brand or do the make good speakers?

Unless your friends are flush with disposable income.....I assume they are just talking about 'em and not buying 'em.....

My mate (the one who gave me the Soundcraft desk) has 2 x UPA-1's and the sub that goes with them, got them for peanuts. It helped a lot he is good friends with the Aussie importer.
Combine them with the matching set the singer in his band bought as well, and they did a 1500+ people outdoor show and were happy with the coverage.

He keeps asking me if I want more gear, as, since he bought the UPA's, he doesn't need any processing or EQ.

He is very interested in what I've put together.

I'd hate to be looking at buying at retail though...

Yea, just talking about them. I was checking out their web site and they seem to have a very extensive line up.

I'm a complete snob for BFM now. Of course I'll appreciate any system that sounds good, but the hype of brand names means nothing to me now.

Flew a 10/side M'elodie rig back in the summer, tone was fantastic and volume was appropriate for a 1250 seat theatre. Flew 8/side 4886 in the same room, volume was louder but the tone wasn't quite as good, that could have been a DSP issue because I have heard Vertec rigs that sound like gold.

Yet another example of how having nice gear doesn't save poor implementation. Line arrays are notoriously difficult to perfect in terms of calculating the angles for the array for best coverage and what DSP to use. Many users of line arrays just assume it'll work, but like everything else requires careful implementation to fully realize the benefits of the line array.

I like Meyer in general, especially since they are at least somewhat transparent and publish pretty useful technical papers.

The problem with that particular Vertec rig was that they didn't use iTech's. Angles seemed right as the coverage was more than adequate, but there was some shit going on in the 1K range that based on experience with other Vertec rigs, shouldn't have been there imo.

Can not come up with a single bad thing to say about that M'elodie rig, other than it probably wouldn't do rock and roll volume in a large venue (which I think is kind of outside the design parameters for that box anyways).
