Limited Budget

So, I have a Yamaha EMX88s, two DR250s, and one (so far) wedgehorn 8 for a monitor.

I am going to build 2 x T39s and probably 2 more wedgehorns.

How to power this cheaply?

I was looking at getting a driverack, but then I thought maybe I'll get a Crown xti2000.

My thoughts are this, use the EMX88s as the mixer and to power the monitors - I know I won't have much flexibility with the mix here.

Then for the DR250s and T39 take the main outs to the xti tops on one channel, subs on the other, use the crossovers and limiting in the xti to do those duties.

In my mind I think this will work. Our singer also has a Presonus 16.4.2 that could be used with this as well, perhaps as the main mixer with the emx88s as the monitor mixer.

So with what I have access to and just purchasing a Crown xti2000, would this be a viable solution for the short term?

Use the Presonus for a mixer.

Use the two Yamahas for monitor power via the aux inputs. This will give you a graphic EQ on the monitors and the ability to run two separate mixes.

Add the xti for power and processing for the mains.

That's the cheapest option using what you have.

The best would be to sell one of the Yamahas, get a used Driverack, buy an XLS 2500 for mains/subs. Should come out about the same money as the other option. The savings on buying the XLS instead of the xti and selling the Yamaha should easily pay for the Driverack.

This setup will be more versatile and make it easier to grow.

The ability to grow is always a thought as well. However, we are mostly going to be playing places that have the sound systems provided. This setup will be for the smaller bar gigs that we would get. And I think it will be multiples better than those bands playing with powered 12" cabs on sticks.

Thanks for your advice Bruce and it's good to know that I wasn't too far off the mark with my thoughts.

Hi,
We use something similar as a vocal PA unit.

Do you have one? Or two? (I'm thinking Bruce saw the s at the end and that meant plural units).

If you only have 1:
If you set the output selector to mains/mon (middle setting for your unit) you get mains output in channel A and monitor output in channel B, giving you 2 channels for monitoring.
These units won't do 2 ohm loads, 4 ohms minimum per channel, so you can do one Wedghorn out of Channel A, EQ'ing with "mains" EQ and the other 2 paired on Channel B, EQ'ing via "monitor" EQ.
Your unit is capable of 200W/channel IIRC, so fine for the smaller Wedghorns.
If you use Aux in it only goes to mains.
So perhaps try to go line in on either channels 7 and/or 8 and mess around with it from there...

Hope this helps...

I only have one Yamaha but what you're describing is what I had envisioned myself.

Now to find a good deal on a used xti20002.

Yeah, the s on the end made me think there were two. I went back and re-read it.....made more sense the second time.

But, you can certainly use two different pathways into the amp in order to utilize both side and get two monitor mixes like Grant said.
