Has anyone pondered the use of BFD systems for a music listening club, or is anyone actually running such a thing? I don’t mean audiophile society in the sense of critiquing equipment (or cables), nor do I mean a DJ-club scene, but a place where people can come and enjoy listening to various recorded music styles in a larger social environment on a good sound system. The concept being that people bring their own tracks, the playlist is decided and published beforehand, food and drink is available on a bring your own or provided basis, one can sit, listen, talk, dance or what have you, etc.

It occurs to me that a wide variety of musical influences and genres could potentially make such a situation less than successful. Each attendee may find kindred spirits in attendance, or not.
Each song on the song list may be enjoyed by others, or it's "not my kind of music", and hence not participate when others music is on.
I know this from the wide variances in one genre, blues. The local blues society agrees to disagree on what constitutes blues, and struggle because of lack of unity in that regard.

Would BFM make a siginificant difference?

I have 2 jack12's in the pipeline. Might do a sub to compliment. Part of the reason for pondering this concept is that the DJ concept somewhat differs, and has to fit with ones personality. @DJphatman: love the cultural reference. A pub function room is perhaps the place to do it. Perhaps a loose affiliation with the Audio engineering Society also.

One would think gear sluts may be in attendence too. Also in theory a flat system should rule but everyone has their tastes when it comes to EQ.

I have thought about something like that, essentially a private party where everyone throws in say 3-5 tracks each and they get added to a playlist running at random. I made a google spreadsheet and everything, I just need to finish a few more cabs and then I'll give it a proper go.

I was just going to use it as a reason to 'show off' the equipment.

That's the first rule to writing a blues song - you have to wake up.

Here are the other requirements;

Packing of bags,

Your baby is leaving you,

Heading down to the train station,

Then...it's a hit

Ooohh almost forgot - for the real classy songs, on the minor 2nd or 6th....there's "another man"

Oh Harley, you missed something much more important than lyrics, and I can't believe it given you're in the rhythm section, it should be a 12 bar.
Other than that, lyrically, you've forgotten "her" and "the dog"...

Yes, that is country......which is pretty much blues with a fiddle and steel guitar from a structure standpoint. If you solo in a major key, it's country - pentatonic, and it's blues.

You got it - that separates country from blues in the lyrcs department!

Oh and on reflection I think that "There's another man" should really be in the country section too. Bluesy guys tend to concentrate on two entities - themselves and the crumpet only ( that's why the dog can't be included )

It'll definitely happen, just not sure when. Waiting to get a pair of T60s done and maybe another set of OT12s. I'll give you a shout.
