Neat, I love stuff like that. I know there is another project out there (think it was DARPA funded) that used speakers to extinguish a flame, not by blowing it out, but by creating a low-pressure pocket surrounding the flame and then depriving the flame of oxygen, thus snuffing the flame.

While I worked at Pfizer we commonly used a really neat machine called an acoustic dispenser. If you needed to transfer a very small amount of liquid from one 384 or 1536 well plate it could vibrate the plate and 'eject' a precise amount of liquid onto the other plate held upside down directly above the source plate. It was all done my robotics, but the technology was very cool and acoustic related.

That sounds a lot nicer than working the P2 1500 times! 96 well plates are enough for me.

I had that feeling when I first got there; I wasn't even sure how to load a 384 well plate! It's crazy how precisely it can 'measure' liquids, it could dispense liquids in the nano-liters level! It was a total change adapting to the nano-scale stuff.
