can someone please post a link to Bills information on building stands for tops ? The ones with the trapezoidal shape ? I cant find it,thanks in advance.

It was pulled as the stacking brackets in the latest DR revision made it obsolete.

No wonder i couldn't find it,i was looking for about an hour.I am toying with the idea of stacking 2 of these:

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R ... reId=10051 on a wooden platform to hold 2 DR250's,using maybe a 2 inch "melded array assembly jig" type platform to raise the bottom cabinets in the back to angle them down and strips of 1/2 inch ply to angle the top cabs properly then strap it all together with rachet tie down straps.I like this alot better than those onstage stands,its sturdier and these stands have a 750 lb. capacity.

Those are fine if tall enough. For floor placement they'd need to be at least five feet high, though.

Hmm, I think too narrow, only 30". My poplar DR250 pair is a fair weight and would be very top heavy with a 30" base and some 105" of height.

I fashioned a trapezoid stand with no plan. Mine is non standard ply, not the full 4ft width at the bottom. It needs a collar or two to make it properly stable as it is prone to twisting with the pair on it.

This is what i am planning to do.I will strap 2 of these stands together vertically,then strap the speakers to the top stand (piece of wood as deep and wide as the DR's to be used as a platform on top of the stand).I wont have to angle the top cab as much as i have it now.i'll see how it works out and post results.

Also i wil turn the saw horses 90 degree's.Looking at the picture they could use the deeper angle better as the saw horses are a rectangular shape.The stands themselves are 30.5 inches tall so it does clear 5 feet.

that looks really top heavy to me. if you were to use 2 of the saw horses, it seems like it would be even more so. for what you would spend for 2 of those saw horses, you can get a nice heavy duty tripod that will support the weight of the 2 speakers, and then put the new stackp plates on the side like bill has pictured in the new plans.

I have those exact stands, I use for my board. I wouldn't do what your planning, only because the top is only held in place by a rotating lock.
i'd go for some scaffolding, I've seen on here http://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/viewt ... caffolding

This is in theory.In practice i wouldnt have a 4 inch block under the bottom speakers,a 1 1/2 guide board sized piece of wood would be enough angle and it would take less for the top cab.If u look closely u can see how much of an angle that is and the top cab is leaning forward.Also i would have a cover draping over the stands to conceal them.In regard to those on stage stands,i have 4 of them and it would be easier to knock those over as opposed to those saw horses,females see a pole and want to become strippers and grab your poles and start dancing,i am not comfortable with my speakers being on those stands.If i bought some of those scaffolds i would still have to add a 12 inch platform to make the height 5 feet as Bill suggested,that may be the way to go.Thanks fella's for the input,any other suggestions are welcomed.

I think you're missing the point. The base of your stack should be wider than the top of the stack by a factor of 1.75 to 2.5. Your base is much narrower, and the base itself is of low mass, making the whole stack unstable. There are tripod stands with extra wide bases (usually used for lighting) that are much more stable, and a piece of black cloth draped over them and tucked under the legs dresses them up, and removes the "pole" aspect.

What he said. I used those same work tables for my Tuba builds, so I'm familiar with their physical attributes. Like Brent said, they're very light. Nice for moving around, but that puts all your weight up top. Physics wins again.

If you could tether the thing to a tree for a backyard BBQ, that would be cool. But if there are people within 10 ft... especially in less-than-controlled circumstances, I would be very concerned about their well-being and your speakers.

I know you want this to work, but it's just not safe IMO. (For that matter, I worry a little about my tripods too. I'd prefer a truss.)

The width of my stand is about 3.5 ft at the trapezoid so somewhat less across the effective bass. With the 2 dr250 on it the topheaviness is very evident.
