It's been really nice weather in Sweden this week, so what's better then setting up a big soundsystem outdoors and play some really nice techno/trance music the whole night throught?

we ran the system both friday and saturday, consisting of 4x T30 and they slayed.. such amazing bass from so low-power requiered cabs! Altho, the first night we were using my Peavey IPR1600 amp which works flawlessly when connected to the DC connector on the wall, but this time we had a fuel generator and they did NOT work together of some reason... the IPR made the whole system crap out(even the tops) and nothing worked as supposed. We got another amp and rocked the show tho..!

So ppl keep that in mind, digital amps(at least ipr series) with generators is no-no!

Digital amps on a good generator have worked just fine for us numerous times. Also use a big power conditioner to help out too.

Most digital amps due not fair well with a low input voltage source. This is not only an important lesson of digital amps but electricity in general.

A shortage of voltage increases the current draw. Higher current equals higher heat. Heat is not good for electronics.

You should always calculate your maximum power consumption of all electronics plugged in and give yourself a little more for headroom when getting power for your system. Also when getting a generator make sure it is properly earth grounded. it may work fine with out it but a ground short can be fatal to all electronics plugged in as well as humans (see musicians who have been electricuted).

There's no such thing as a digital amp. What you've got are Class-D amplifiers and switch mode power supplies (SMPS).

An SMPS should actually be particularly well suited to generator powered operation, since any good SMPS should include voltage regulation. +-30% voltage fluctuation should be no issue for a good SMPS. Either the IPR1600 has a badly designed power supply or the generator you had was crappy or working too hard.

It's a cheap rather powerful generator (6.5 hp á 2600w) but they are working good and everyone around here uses them for outdoor parties with great success.. very few of them fail. But maybe they have a way of producing current that's not very reliable.

Anyway, we were using it last year with great success with an traditional heavy iron amp and also this time it worked good with iron amp.. Would be nice to cut some weight, I maybe should look into SMPS as it seem to cut some weight too.

we were using 4x T30, 2x JBL eon15 and some LED lights so it shouldn't be working too hard, you can actually hear on the generator pumping when it's working hard and I never heard any symptoms like that.

I wouldn't dare not to bring a backup iron/smps amp when using IPR series amps with generator as it fucked the 3 first hours(I couldn't figure out the problem and had to drive around the whole town for another amp).

IPR or generator? I don't know, both are cheap and work good but obviously not with each other..

This was the second night, or morning when the party obviously was over, the organizer didn't want us to use all four, so we began with two V plated in front, then when some hours had flown by we couldn't resist two more (and yes, that stone is to keep the V-plate in place.. tho it was cool decoration too)

Yeah, actually I think the video reveals a bit of what kind of effortless clean low bass they can produce.. altho its much better in reality;-)

I think it also displays, in a very positive manner, the fact that a system shouldn't be cooking the top end when the subs are deployed correctly.

Only thing I can think of that'd be better, is an outdoor party with drum'n'bass/techno the whole night through

Do you mean the relationship between tops and subs, or how much treble you choose to give the tops? The eons is very harsh with eq at neutral.. i turn their hf control all the way down and still dont miss any treble! Makes them soft and nice middy, and everybody loves it, but I guess a pair of dr's would kick them to the moon and back!
