Leaks from gasket
Leaks from gasket
How common is it to have a leak at the gasket? I have been testing my jacks and they dont appear to have leaks, but I am not sure I know what to listen for. Is there another way to describe the "chuffing" noise so that I know what how to identify it?

Re: Leaks from gasket
It's something you just immediately know when you hear it, and it is tricky to describe. I had repaired some vibrating braces on a T30 and there were some very small holes in the top where I was drilling for the panel. The bass was there but less powerful and you could really hear the "chuff"...just air blowing through a little hole...that's what it sounds like.

Re: Leaks from gasket
Yup, the "pfff pfff" sound is pretty apparent when the leak is on the outside, and it's most apparent at very low frequencies- something just sounds wrong and you know it's not a normal sound. I had the same air leak problem with pilot holes I had drilled and didn't use. Filled with PL, problem solved. Driver gasket leaks are pretty common too- a bead of latex caulk around the gasket as you attach it and helps prevent leaks.
Re: Leaks from gasket
I put the back on and pulled a screw from the jack plate. Now I understand what to listen for. Thanks.
