I recently got a chance to catch Excision at a local 1500 person venue. One of the major sellers for me was the fact that he was bringing "100k watts in PK subwoofers" which would be about 40 CX800s (
http://www.pksound.ca/wp-content/upload ... woofer.pdf) ...
As I walked into the the opener Lucky Date playing, I was initially unimpressed, but I didnt pass judgement as I KNEW they were saving the stack for the headliner. within 5 minutes of the opener leaving the stage they lowered the 25 foot curtain to reveal excisions XVISION glorified booth, which was fairly cool. Excision took his place at the top of the mountain, and let everyone in the crowd get a taste of an 1/8 note LFO'd sine wave that I believe was about 55 hz (A1, as I know for the a fact that the song played next was in the key of Aminor). Everyone without earplugs on the floor was pretty much knocked down in the first 3 seconds (not me I came protected

). To say the least, It was loud, suck the air out of your lungs loud. After the first bass test I was pretty much done though. Midrange was SLATHERED in mud, in fact if it wasnt for the fact that Excision was playing songs I could identify by bassline alone, I couldnt tell you waht he played. I enjoyed a bass bath for about 30 minutes then made my way to the stoge smoking patio. Even from outside I was fairly concerned about the structural stability of the venue.
It was fun to hear the 35-55 hz range louder than I ever had before. I wish it wasnt paired with a lackluster mid solution, but they were going for shock value, and they succeeded. I hope to catch him again, but I'll think twice about paying full price on the ticket, as although the bass was big, overall SQ suffered. Hope you guys enjoyed my account and I'll leave you with a question: What would you do with 100k Watts, and where would you set your rig up?

100Kw doesn't mean all that much unless you're a kiddie, and then only so you can advertise "100Kw!" to draw the kiddies in like flies to shit, which is no coincidence, as that's the only thing which that much power with that small a room could sound like.
Most pro-touring sound companies playing to 10,000 seats only run half that.

nah actually no swagga at all. after 2 years of it being banned from dj sets I kinda wanted to hear it again... that 90 hz would have made people puke.
like I said, it was overkill, so much so that it negatively affected the show.

+ the 1
Most of the under-25 crowd can't believe that my current rig runs around 1kW flat out (rarely in other words) and that I get my bass SPL from good placement. Can't wait to see their faces when I get my T39's done

I was in PK's shop about a month ago here in Calgary AB just out of curiosity as they have been deemed the go to sound company for Bass and their system is making it onto some bigger named artists riders. I wanted to have a look at some of their cabs but they were not open to public viewing at that time as they were designing something new and groundbreaking in the shop. I think it may have something to do with individual cab dsp control and limiting... I think.. I heard at the last Shambhala festival in nelson BC they lost 36 Lab 12 drivers due to a noob forgetting to set the hp on the stack of what looked like a modified LABhorn's x 20+ cabs. Can see the use for more rigid control over the system doing that type of duty.

I call it "Detroit Watts." The popular local companies have taken to this marketing.
They're also CERTIFIED TECHS or something of that matter. It's amazing what an ego one can get after a couple smaart classes.

I'd like to experience a full on PK sound system simply because it sounds stupid as hell. All those drivers must move a silly amount of air...

or 80+ 18 inch drivers, which is what was in the building that day. was 25 feet from the stack, literally saw people hit the floor on the first track.
