Australian Options - Suppliers / Drivers etc

Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

The Eminence adjustable top hat pole socket seems to be unavailable... anywhere. I don't like the idea of bolting a flat adaptor to the DR ground stacking bracket unless I welded the whole stand together for stability, even then I think it would be unstable. Apart from giant tripods like ACUAs, any ideas?

Yep, two stands a side with a flat piece of thicker ply between.
Add eye bolts to strap the bottom cab to the platform you've created.
Use the flat bolt on stand adapters on the bottom side, one per stand.
Twice as stable arguably.
Set up the stands so that the leg aiming at the cabs centre aim at each other.
That leaves the other two (outer) legs facing forwards and backwards for stability.
Find the cab centre of gravity for best positioning on the platform.

Use the floor stacker plate to adjust the face angle. If you do that, don't strap the ratchet straps down quite as firmly, or something will let go...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Bruce, probably where I'd seen it but forgotten! All credit to mike.

Of course, much easier as well with Otops rather than DR's...

Good evening, would this 12" driver be considered Pro audio? Qts is off, looking for a Lab12 substitute available here, for T30. I feel it may not be up to the task..?

Mate,
It's very like the specs of the Lab12C, which is outside spec compared to a Lab12
Having said that, enough forum members have used the Lab12C for their builds, seemingly with success. You have to pay close attention to impedance and need 2 ohm stable amps to run a pair of cabs per channel.

The Dayton Audio driver you've put up is hard to argue as a pro sound driver with it's 2 +2 voice coil which is more commonly associated with Car audio, but it might be worth trying to break one and find out if the price is right...

edit: voltage displacement limit in the plans is for the 6 ohm Lab 12. If you go with a lab12C or something similar like the Dayton you put up, limit is lower (with the same achieved max output). That makes it very difficult to mix and match drivers limit wise...

Thanks mate, ah yes, limiting would be painful to set.
2x 28" Lab12 T30s aren't going to satisfy a pair of Delta Pro 12 DR 280s used for EDM are they? I'm thinking 4x would be adequate?
What about a pair of Lab15 T60s? I have one in the TubaHT which l could substitute, then l'm just looking for 1 more Lab15.
Or 2x 20" Lab12 T60s?
Or.. 4x S18 Pros (basic driver)?
Is there a better substitute for Labs even if they're available to you?

Wait.. Could 1x 27" Lab15 T60 and 2x 20" Lab12 T60s be used together?

Sheesh, you don't think small, I like it.
The DR280's average SPL is IIRC 106dB at 1 metre using the 2512. So you using the Delta Pro 12 will help match with subs a bit better, their average SPL will be a few dB lower in the mids I think.
A pair of Lab12 T30's might keep up indoors, but won't outdoors most likely. So start with 2 and work up I guess.
If money is no object, and you can find them in Australia, the 18sound drivers in the plans allow the highest limit, therefore greatest output.

If you think the 280's are big, the T60 is like a large fridge!
T60's are only designed for use with Lab15 or Lab 12.
But the T60 will dig deeper, great for EDM if the content is there.
Measure/calculate content in your songs to see if you need down to 25Hz using Audacity is one way to help you decide.

Yes, but again, the Lab15 and Lab12 have different driver limits, then add in that a paralleled pair of Lab12 loaded cabs impedance is nominally 3 ohms (I ignore the added impedance from the cab when working out amp requirements), you would need a 2 ohm stable amp. Difficult to manage.

Next option for a t60 with more output than can be got from a lab15 is series wired 2 x lab12's per cab, a parallel pair of cabs per amp channel for a 6 ohm load. So any 4 ohm stable amp will suffice, but remember series/paralleling doubles voltage requirement to get to war volume.

Cans of worms in your head now I bet...

The Eighteen Sound is advertised with Aus retailers, just no stock or aim to import atm, just like all the other good things we need here man!
Tubas are the sub for me mate, proper extension.
I have 2xQSC MX3000As here which like 2ohms, the reason l ask about that combo (wrong place to ask yes) is I could raid my T30s and TubaHT for their Lab drivers to insert into T60s if l need more with the DR280s.
Can we set up a "Parts Express" franchise over here please!

Good evening, here's where to grab the Eminence adjustable top hat

https://www.thomannmusic.com/adam_hall_ ... lansch.htm

If you really want them, don't look at the shipping price... or our dollar.. just press the button. I've ordered 4, and report back once they arrive.

I was also VERY lucky on the local Eminence LF driver front, the speaker fairy loves me!
