If you watch the video on its page, what looks like expanded adhesive is scraped off with a chisel...
Turns out, these guys are just around the corner from me in Loganholme, sweet!

Ok next item for an alternative is Duratex, it's available, but at $170 + shipping for 3.8L, I'd be happy to start experimenting with other products. Has anyone bought "Rockard" lately?
Also like everything else, contact cement and carpet have shot up as well.
Is anyone able to comment on veneer or 2pac paint costs, verses carpet or Duratex?
Glad l still have a couple of litres left over..

Good grief man, we're going through the same processes lol.Keryn O'Shea wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 4:10 pm Ok next item for an alternative is Duratex, it's available, but at $170 + shipping for 3.8L, I'd be happy to start experimenting with other products. Has anyone bought "Rockard" lately?

Rockard is gone. Neil passed away years back and the family continued for a while, but it's no longer available.
Cannon is the Aussie importer (for Duratex) I believe, and the price you have above is their price.
Amazon.com.au has Granatone Speaker cab paint at $220 for 3.8l.
Warnex cab paint is available from Penn Elcom online is $450 for 5.1l
Tuff cab from the UK doesn't seem to be available here.
That's about it for the tougher road ready finishes I'd reckon, paint wise.
Ute bed paint:
Rustoleum 3.8l is $230 in kit form from Supercheap.
Ute bed paint appliers like Rhino or LineX might be worth a chat to for them to apply finishes for road ready gear.
I'd only go with known brands or harder durable finishes for tour/outdoor stuff.
Veneer: why not? Looks great for HT stuff, You can still use black Japeen stain if it has to match other stuff. Or have a crack at piano black finish.
Bunnings used to sell veneer in larger sheets years ago, don't know about now though.
Or, ring around the better timber supply companies in Brissie mate

Don't know if you have it there, but Krylon makes a "hammered" spray paint in a rattle can. A whole bunch of coats of primer and a couple of top coats of that might be worth a try. It looks kind'a like duratex, but isn't nearly as tough. Just one more option.

Great info and ideas as usual Grant, I like the Rhino coat idea most.
I'll check around for something like that Bruce thank you, can you tell us what Duratex is going for in the US?
I have a few customers who are painters/builders, I'll rattle their cages..
Also I didn't realise how crap our dollar is atm.

Hell, shipping within the US has gotten pretty steep too. I didn't realize the exchange rate was that much in favor of the US dollar over AU.Grant Bunter wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 3:19 amTha's around $125AU retail.Bruce Weldy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 4:34 pm Duratex is right at $80/gallom from Leland....that's where I've always bought it.

Re: Australian Options - Suppliers / Drivers etc
Evening all, there was a wedding I played at long ago which the bride produced a white fabric which was very thin but stretchy to wrap the cabs up in to fit the decor of the room, it was able to hide the black duratex nearly completely, but you could hold it to your mouth and breath through it easily.. could anyone name it? Reason is as I have a couple of frankencabs I'm playing with, which were carpeted and I ripped it off.. now I couldn't be bothered getting the old contact cement off, plus the ply surface isn't worth the work to get it to paint, also I like seeing the shoddy workmanship and busted arse look of them and don't want to cover them up permanently. Cheers

Cheers Seth, I'll go and raid Grants costume drawer..
The Eminence adjustable top hat is available to Aus at $41ea through Amazon free of an extra shipping charge, 4-6 weeks eta though. Just ordered a couple so I'll report back. They have the 1016s for only $31.50, and GT-302s for $29 each! Be nice if they had Duratex.. or LABs.. Still stoked about the top hat though.
I kept looking and surprisingly their prices on Goldwood woofers and drivers weren't too bad. There's a few Eminence woofers in 6/8/10s which we would use, prices are ok.

GT-1016 for $31.50 each? That's ten times the US price.
Re: Australian Options - Suppliers / Drivers etc
I used the hammered spray on a bass guitar that I did NOT want to spend a lifetime finishing. It's works OK, better if you only do horizontal surfaces, ie - spray it thick on the top and leave that horizontal till it dries. So, it takes more steps to do correctly.Bruce Weldy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 6:27 pm Don't know if you have it there, but Krylon makes a "hammered" spray paint in a rattle can. I used Behr "Granite Grip" on a patio. It rolls on with a special roller like the Duratex. It doesn't go on as thick as the Duratex, but it definitely thicker and "bumpier" than paint. It's $63 a gallon at Home Depot in the USA.
