Newb question? xti4000 and tuba 60
i have 2 xti4000. and i am building tuba 60s with dual 12s.
i am trying to figure out how many tuba 60 i can run on one amp and what impedance i should wire the boxes.
this will be used for dj sound system inside and outside parties.
Thanks

Umm, lots? Do you want to run your tops with the same amps or just the subs?
The horn adding impedance is usually about 2 ohm and we usually ignore it to be on safe side. I believe Labs are 6ohm because they are designed to go in horns and give you a 8 ohm box, nice and easy maths.
Dual loaded gives you about 5 ohm with the horn impedance, two of them on a channel is 2.5 ohms and driving the amp pretty darned hard.
I don't know if the amp has enough power to drive all that amount of cabs anyway. If you just look at the driver impedance you're way down at 1.5 ohm so that's putting some very high faith in your horn impedance. Better get an answer off Bill on the advisabilty of that!
Three single loaded cabs per channel might be a better option. Or one dual cab per channel

Impedance for both series and parallel wired is in the plans.FreshMeat wrote:i have 2 xti4000. and i am building tuba 60s with dual 12s.

Re: Newb question? xti4000 and tuba 60
i plan on using the amp just for subs. wanting to know how i should match quantity of t60 with xti 4000.
xti4000 says: 2ohm 1600wats/ch stero
4ohm 1200watts/ch stero
and 3200 watts 4 ohm bridged mono
would it be better to use the 15" sub t60 instead?

It's horses for courses stuff. How big of a cabinet can you store and transport, how much noise you actually need to make, what you can afford.....these are decisions to make before buying plans in my opinion. I take it you haven't actually bought any plans yet?

You would be better approaching the situation by first defining how loud, then how many/ what drivers, then how to wire/amplify. Your putting the cart before the horse.

I already purchased plans. i went ahead and bought all plans because if the tuba 60 work out for me i will use some of the other plans to build home and car set ups.
i plan on going off the tuba 60 specs. im just trying to maximize the xti4000 to the best i can get with it and the t60. i haven't started on cutting the wood.
as far as how loud i am just trying to use the xti4000 for subs right now. if for any reason i need more sound i can always add more amps and t60s.

Re: Newb question? xti4000 and tuba 60
For small inside house parties, t60s would be complete and utter overkill to the umpteenth degree. For moderate outside parties, how about 2 ot12 and 2 t30/t60 if you like. It all depends on where you're playing and what you're playing, and how many you're playing for.FreshMeat wrote:I already purchased plans. i went ahead and bought all plans because if the tuba 60 work out for me i will use some of the other plans to build home and car set ups.

We need more information. We need what venues you will be playing in terms of size, outside or inside, how loud you want, what kind of music you play, etc. How many people? Do they like it loud? Questions like that.
Edited to put two extra words in that I realized I forgot.

You're the man with the plans. Afaik there isn't any one solution for getting maximum output from an XTi. They can only put out what they get from the wall less a factor for efficiency.FreshMeat wrote:I already purchased plans. i went ahead and bought all plans because if the tuba 60 work out for me i will use some of the other plans to build home and car set ups.

If you series/parallel enough drivers you can put any number of cabs on the one amp but they would only get a small amounnt of power each.
You have to figure out how hard you would like your amp to work and divide that by the number of drivers at however hard you want your drivers to work, round down to the nearest whole number. That's how many drivers you can run in parallel on the one amp channel. Then figure out if you want to put them in singles or duals.
Say the answer was three per channel. You might build a slim single and a wide dual and give yourself some flexibilty in setting up gigs.

Re: Newb question? xti4000 and tuba 60
I understand the amps you have. You can power at least 8 cabs with them. Without knowing the max SPL (or venue size) you need it's pointless to direct you on the best driver/wire/amp scheme. No rudeness intended.FreshMeat wrote: as far as how loud i am just trying to use the xti4000 for subs right now. if for any reason i need more sound i can always add more amps and t60s.
This is not my vid but:

Re: Newb question? xti4000 and tuba 60
Thanks wally wally. im getting answers now. i plan on using them many ways. but for the most part i want to use them outside venues. right now i would like to have enough for 1700 people. i would also like for the sound to have power behind it. will 4 cabs per xti4000 do the job or will it be necessary to run 2 cabs each and just ad more amps. i seen on the tuba page 4 cabs are good for 2000 people. is that for inside, outside venue or both? thanks for the video most likely for a particular stage 8 cabs would probably be the most i would do even if i only get 1700 people. i just wanted to power the cabs correctly with out under powering them.

Re: Newb question? xti4000 and tuba 60
It depends on your definition of "enough". You can easily work out the SPL for any given combination of amps and drivers + cabs. Use the info in the SPL chart response sticky.

Gregory East, i havent dealt with audio in a long time and i am not familiar with matching this stuff up.
i do not know how much db iam wanting to achieve. im not sure which charts you are talking about. in the spl charts topic?

I am not familiar with your amp. I would only run 1 per channel. I don't trust a 2 ohm load.

Re: Newb question? xti4000 and tuba 60
thanks Dan. as far as power with the tubas, since the 2 lab 12 are rated at 400 wats rms. and the cabs are effecient what would be a recomended power for the cab. 800 watts or more ? thanks
