Crown XLS 1000 good for two Tuba 30's w/Delta 12LFA?

Hello everyone. I'm in the process of building a Tuba 30 loaded with a Delta 12LFA. If I'm understanding everything that I've read, I believe that a single Crown XLS 1000 will do the job to power two Tuba 30's loaded with the same type of driver, but I'd like some confirmation on this. From what I'm reading, this amp should have a voltage output of 41.5 volts per channel and the Delta 12LFA has a limit of 35 volts. Can somone give me some opinions on this choice as I plan on using it for a single cab, but will also like to use it to power two if needed. Thanks.

Are you asking if the 1000 will work? If so, yes it should. You won't have a lot of headroom, but it should work...

Thanks for responding. Yeah, I was asking if it would be a compatible or recommended setup. I don't mind getting the more powerful XLS 1500, but I just don't want to get it if it's unnecessary. How much headroom would you recommend?

Unless you intend to bridge the 1000, I'd go with the 1500.

It's a hard limited system. The only headroom you have available is what you keep in reserve below the limit by keeping the mix out of the red. Extra available amp voltage doesn't get you any more noise.

Get the XLS1500 if you're worried about clipping the amp, or if you just want extra headroom. Personally I would go with the XLS1500 for more headroom. The less you push an amp and put it under stress, the longer it will last.

Please explain how you get any more than 35V out of a XLS1500 when it's got a limiter set on it.

Are you asking me? Bridged at 4 ohms, the XLS puts out 1550w bridged at 4 ohms. The Delta 12LFA is 400w RMS. I'm not sure how much resistance the Tuba 30 cab adds though.

You don't.....but a 1000 will clip.....the 1500 probably will too in stereo mode, but not as bad.

I bought a new xti2000 the other day, planned to use in on subs. Set limiter at 56 volts - all was fine. Played some music through it - clip light came on with each kick drum hit. Wasn't even close to hitting the limiter.

Put the subs back on the bridged XLS1500 - no clipping and plenty of headroom.

This is what I don't understand about XTi's and their non brickwall limiting. If you turned their limiter off and put your other limiter in front would it clip before it put out 56V? Your result suggests you went without a limiter on the XLS.

When I set my xti2000 I wound up the mixer gain so it was just about clipping the amp and got a little over 50V at -3dB setting with the sinewave. Goosing the mixer got the amp input into clipping and it was another couple of volts only. I should have tried it without the limiter engaged for comparision. There was no problem with kick drum "reinforcement".

Delta12 is supposed to be limited to 35V, ie roughly 150 watts.

The XLS 1000 has an output of 215watts per channel. If I'm gonna limit the output to 35v, which should be about 154watts why will it clip? I'm new to this so please excuse my ignorance.

All the bells and whistles of that amp don't look too useful for small DJ rigs. It does have oodles of power to run a couple of Delta12 subs without clipping but the way I read the sales blurb at Crown you'd need a processor as well.

You get Highpass OR Lowpass, but don't seem to be able to set a proper passband for subs on either channel, not even in bridge mono. Maybe I read it all wrong.

This is from their site:
2. LowPass Mode (CH1=LPF, CH2=LPF) – When chosen, this mode enables a LowPass Filter on both Channel 1 and Channel 1 at the frequency chosen.
Hmm… I wonder if that's a typo on their site, cause it has in parintheses CH2=LPF

The XLS series are good amps but don't have many bells and whistles like the XTIs. The crossover function allows you to run tops on one side and subs on the other....pretty standard now.

You will need a processor for setting Hipass and Lopass, limiter, EQ, etc.

I thought the XLS series had an internal processor for hipass, lopass, and limiter just not EQ? Idk, I guess i got some more research to do.
