Ok so this isnt about folded horns but I spent the weekend at Rock on the Range which is a huge 40+band 3 Stage Rock festival
As a media photographer for the event I got front row access for the first three songs of every set...
The venue had all the bass cabs along the front of the stage and holly crap!!
Ive felt some pretty awesome systems before but this was a whole other level we always talk about bass hitting you in the chest and let me tell you!! the bass hit like a brick wall
As a photog I was standing between the double stacks and my world was shaking!!
Not sure exactly what type of cabs these are but the had no brand on them and there was what looked to be a 18in driver pointed towards the top port and the basket side vented to the bottom port... The scary part was the drivers were hardly moving they might have been running like 25% of max excursion which makes me wonder how crazy they really could get

Those are Nexo CD18s. Top of the line.

Most companies that can afford Nexo, use enough of them to never have to need to get close to max excursion. If you'd spent that kind of cash, you'd also never try to max out excursion. that would be really stupid.

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's a stage with some subs in front of it. :)

I'm certain they are extremely impressive, but 256 lbs each...they certainly should be! Maybe there's a reason for stretcher in the photo. It'd be interesting how they compare pound for pound and for amps to drive them. How much does a 30 x 30 x 60 T60 weigh?...can't be 256?...maybe 150-175?

Regardless of the design, just about every cab will be lighter than what available commercially. This is simply due to the fact that the extra bracing allows for the use of 1/2" plywood. Is not not that manufactures can't do it, it's just that the extra labor that the woodworking would require cuts into their profits.

So while these cabs may be trade being small for increased sensitivity, they still weigh less than just about everything with similar performance.

in my opinion, a t60 won't compare to a Nexo. The CD18 is a cardiod sub, so the directional advantages it has is an additional benefit for large venues. You won't have that with T60s. Controlling them in an large venue will be difficult. a volume output comparison, maybe, but that's not the reason one would want to use a Nexo.

+1 Pattern control big time. Page 3 of the spec sheet. Lots of dough there...but does it always have to be?

Only in that the Nexo is pre-configured for cardioid operation, along with the necessary processing. The same can be done with most subs, T60s included. You just need to use paired cabs and process them.

Is that a line array in the background? That thing is huge!

Large enough for an audience of at least 20,000.
