This will be my first speaker build of any kind. I barely understand how my home theater works. I definitely don't grok ohms, volts, excursion, xmax, minwax, winisd or pretty much anything else. I have no idea why this sub would sound better than a sealed or ported box. The reason I'm building it was because it was the most complete plan I could find online that gave you the driver and everything.

I just finally moved in to a house after 10 years in a townhouse which forced me in to a 5.0 system. So at the very least I'll get some kind of bass and have some fun using my new garage.

We had some old shelves that we didn't want any more. They make nice straight edges for saw sleds and braces.


All cuts made. This took forever with the circular saw. Made me long for the days when I had a table saw. Maybe someday...

First panel!


Second panel! I don't like the idea of the scrap braces being screwed into the panels so I'm trying to avoid it. I just screwed panel 1 to 2. Hopefully that's ok.


And here is where we end for now because I cut the angle wrong on panel 3 so I have to cut a new one. Luckily there's enough scrap. But my patience was thin after my first experience with the PL. I'm bummed because the driver will be here tomorrow and I wanted to be ready for it.

I didn't get any time to work on the box today but the sub came in and I couldn't resist hooking it up and giving it a quick test.

I went with the recommended Dayton driver and a SA 100 amp. Not sure if the amp will be enough but I figure I'll try and return it if its not. And if that doesn't work, just another excuse to build a T18 or something.

Jonesing for a bike. I used to own a bike shop. Haven't ridden for several years. I still have a sweet Trek 2300 carbon fiber road bike, but my son absconded with my mountain bike. Been shopping for a city bike for a while now.

A friend almost did just that last weekend. He rode head first straight into a tree on a course he's done a 1000 times over the years. He was found in the woods by someone passing by last saturday, couldn't move his limbs, taken straight into hospital and still there. Broken vertebrae in his neck, can wiggle toes and fingertips but not feeling anything in hand nor feet so far. Unsure as of yet how much will come back.

Not saying you shouldn't enjoy yourself and have some exercise all the same, just be careful out there. Being able to tinker around the house with wood and tools is just too much fun.

My cousin was paralyzed from a downhill mountain bike race. A log was on the course (where it shouldn't have been), and his helmet's visor yanked his head backward. He's gone now.

Very sorry to hear about your friends. No doubt it can be a dangerous sport. Truth be told I take it real slow on the downhills. It doesn't take much these days to give me a thrill. The 'kill myself on the hills' comment was meant for when I'm pedaling UP the hills.

I recut the 3rd panel (baffle?) tonight. Got the angles right this time then moved on to cutting the hole. Holy crap was that a disaster. Guess I should have done a test with that new circle cutting jig I bought first. Its so bad I'm not even going to share a pic of it. Too embarrassed. I think I can salvage it though. We'll see when I try to mount the driver tomorrow.

Much progress today!

Finally got panel 3 cut and installed. That was the panel from hell. I snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on this one.

Not pretty but it'll get the job done (I hope). Not sure if I'll have to trim those bolts or not. They seem to fit.


Finally glued in. I deem thee bastard panel!


Panel 4


Panel 5. The brace was about 1/8" too thin. This will be the first big test of PL's filling ability.


Panel 6 installed and everything clamped up for the night.


I'm finally realizing that I'm not going to be able to get in between panels 3-5 and 4-6. I guess you just have to pray everything's airtight? What if there's a leak in there somewhere?
