Policy on Donating BFM Cabs

Just wanted to ask and be clear what the proper procedure is for donating BFM cabs to, say, a church? The head sound guy at the church I attend is wanting to build a portable rig for the church that will be used if the pastor wants to do a sermon outside (rare) or just in case the main system fails in either the sanctuary or the youth studio. I've convinced him of BFM designs.

These cabs would be built by me at my expense (plans, materials, etc.) and donated to the church.

To respect the copyright and Bill, what must I do?

Thanks in advance! :D

So long as you're not profiting it's OK.

If I remember correctly from a thread way back, I believe that if you are giving them away, you do not need extra plans or anything of the sort. Hopefully it is since this is how I gave away an AT, and a TT :fingers: . I put in all the expenses and the labor, so like you, I basically donated the cabs.

However, if this is not case, i'm pretty sure someone else will chime in and I will duly send the royalties to Bill.

EDIT: ha, he chimed in even before I finished posting, but yay! :hyper:

Not profiting in the slightest. Except for the fact that I'll get to run this phat rig when the church needs it. ;)

Thanks much, Bill and SeisTres. :D

On a similar note, what about reselling used cabs and making some buck back on our hard work?

"Used" would mean that they had seen some real time being used, not just a gig or two, and are probably old enough not to be the newest version.

From the For Sale section...
Building cabs from our plans for retail sale requires having an Authorized Builder franchise. You may list used cabs here, but if you are not an Authorized Builder new cab sales are not allowed. BFM cabs offered for sale must be truly 'used', and in keeping with the market value of used gear they may not be priced at more than 25% of the Equivalent Retail Value of the cab as posted on the website catalog pages for each model. Cab ads with no listed prices or prices that deviate from this policy will be summarily deleted.
If someone wants to contract you to build them a cab, that's typically kosher, but either they need to buy the plans, or you can become an authorized builder. At that point, Bill is being compensated for the use of his intellectual property either way.

Good to know.

What if you build a cab and find out its not what you wanted and want to recoop some of the cost? It doesn't really fall under the used category... just sayin

one would think if you play it long enough to get a feel for it such that you can decide whether you like it or not, it would be well used. If in doubt, just buy an extra set of plans and provide them with the cab.. It's not like they're crazy expensive.
