That speaker isn't much different than current Fostex/Lowther/Jordan designs that are popular with the single driver crowd.

Hu look at this...
Scroll up just a little to see the enclosure.
I found it when searching for the recommended p5tx Jensen speaker.

Being fairly new to acoustical science I wasn't sure what Bill meant about single driver designs so did some quick research that I thought I'd share. Single drivers are assumed to be better point sources but unlike line arrays introduce more distortion (did I get that right??) Seem to me to be used for esoteric designs and driven with valve amps and what is called "hi-end" or "audiophile" (i.e. very pricey) equipment.

How do they sound?

IMO single driver systems are, like open baffle, for counter-culture types. They claim more faithful reproduction by eliminating crossovers, but no single driver can run with both full bass and good dispersion in the highs. And all those phase nasties that they attribute to crossover caps and coils? Those same components are contained in amplifiers and all the rest of the signal chain.
BTW, unofficial definition of audiophile: Someone who'll believe anything. :bash:

Thanks Bill. Are these the sorts of thing that audiophiles believe? Do tubas reproduce "tight", "soft", or "loud" bass?

ha what is that 2nd picture?! Can you imagine walking in the door with that? "Oh yes honey, well it's for the bedroom" Sheesh

Ya maybe we can use some silver wire to wire up the DRs, for maximum sound quality!

  If I got a buck for every post I've found on the Klipsch forums regarding that exact mod to Belles, K-Horns, and La Scalas, I'd have enough to actually buy the silver wire to do so. But I'd rather buy a silver spoon instead, because at least I could eat my breakfast with it.

You could build TLAH mains, SLA centre and surrounds, two THT subs, plus buy a surround amp for the price of the speaker cables in the top pic! :horse: :noob:

The second pair are strictly for those with more money than sense, I think! Suitable if one lives in a palace! A trifle silly IM British O!

Some guys are into cameras more than they are into taking photographs. :wall:
