Has anyone ever taken measurements at large concerts?
I mean large as in "A" list bands at "A" list venues.
Just curious what the SPL is at those places.
Most of the concerts I have attended are too loud in my opinion.
When it gets to the point where your hearing is starting to shut down to protect itself, that's a little too much.
I was running sound at a large venue Thursday night (large for around here... 824 capacity).
I got the level to where I thought it sounded good and took a measurement.
105dB at mix position about 50' from the stage.

That's on the low side of average, 110dB being not unusual, 115dB over the top, and that's 75-100 feet out.

so... would you say that between 105 and 110 is average for a club setting?

Yes, if capable of going that loud while remaining clean.

I went to a pub gig without my earplugs and it sounded way way better with my fingers in my ears. Then I left.
(When my ears shut down it makes distortion, I presume everyone else does too and they just think that's how it's supposed to sound)

That's amazing - how can you play bass with both fingers in your ear?

When you ears go into protect midrange sensitivity is reduced, as that's where you're most vulnerable to damage.

C, of course. A weighting is totally useless with respect to music.
