I was just wondering what type of cord do you use for making the cables, I found a deal on 12/2 sjoow cord like what you would use on extension cords, will this work well?
http://www.cshincorporated.com/product_ ... s_id=11830 also I am so new to live sound (first mixer on the way) do most of you keep your amp rack close to the stage and run shorter speaker wires or with the mixer out front with longer wires? thanks for the help/advice in advance.

Neoprene rubber makes winding up 100ft. of 12GA+ cable easier than PVC. Similar cable @ P.E. is priced ~33% higher.
EDIT: I thought it was 12ga. but it is 14ga. May want to be more specific on the length and power requirements.

I use
this from Parts Express:
About $0.44/ft - slightly more expensive than the wire you've found.

For the budget minded. Note: there is only 91' on a roll.

Have you used this? If so what is the jacket material like, thick? Strong?

I've bought 4 rolls of it and the jacket is very thick and strong and the wire inside fits tightly in the speakon connectors.
As Bill says "copper is copper"

Signal losses at line level into high impedance loads are slight, signal losses at speaker level into low impedance loads are major, so keep the speaker cabling as short as possible. And copper is copper.
